I have no idea and I thought maybe somebody could help me out here about cancerous cells or cancer cells? My mom has been taking antibiotics for her lung which is producing more and more cancerous cells? She has also had ulcer recently. I have heard of chemotherapy but antibiotics..? She has been taking it for 5 months now she says and I'm upset as I have NO IDEA what is going on and if this is serious or not. It sounds serious if the doctor is putting her on antibiotics for 5 months already.

Possibly they are referring to pre cancerous cells?

From what you describe, it sounds as though maybe the place where the ulcer was, is starting to produce pre cancerous cells (a bit like when you have a cervical smear and they find things that are what you would have before they turned into cancer)

Maybe the antibiotics are to try and solve the original problem so that the area can heal?

I don't know, sorry I am not qualified in this so not much help x

oh okay...that might be. Just so worried especially as she is so secretive. Thank you very much.

Cancerous cells = cancer cells, I would think.

If we were talking about precancer, surely the term would be 'precancerous cells'?

Neither precancer nor cancer is treated by antibiotics.

Your mum might be taking the antibiotics for the ulcer (in her stomach, I assume).

ulcer for 5 months..?? okay. I suppose that's reasonable. She is talking as if she might die soon and just scaring me to death.

Before this antibiotic treatment came up, people used to have stomach ulcers for years and years.

It does sound like you need to learn a bit more about your mum's condition, though. With a bit more information you might see it is not as scary or that her condition is really serious and she needs more support.

she won't tell me exactly what's happening. And my mother has always used her health to get sympathy from family and also hide from people and situations. Also she says personally hurtful things while she explains about her condition so it's difficult to be calm and ask her persistently about what's really wrong with her health. Not an excuse but I'm just in a difficult situation and I realize I need to know more. I just wanted to know what causes doctors to prescribe long term usage of antibiotics.

Can you write down the name of the antibiotics she uses and Google them?

For ulcer and certain serious diseases, I think specific types of antibiotics are used. (Rather than the more common ones used for garden variety chest infections etc)

You might be able to find out what she is treated for.

good idea cotedazur!! Thanks. We live in different country but I'm going to visit her soon for a month so that's a brillant idea!! Thanks and I won't worry too much about it now as it's not productive.

Can't give you any advice except DON'T GOOGLE. Always get the worst case scenario, could you ask your own doctor in passing.
