Hi Everybody

need some help & advice. Have had Mirena in for 10 weeks now & feel absolutely awful. Still getting cramps & bleeding, no energy and very low mood. At my wits end. Went back to Gps last week but saw nurse instead of Doc & she refused to remove it cos I havent given it a chance. said i have to persevere until new year. Cant face feeling like this for another 2 months - what should I do now?? Can you have it taken out by anyone else?

Please help

I'd ask your GP for a referral to a gynae and do not take no for an answer.

Tried this but they wont refer me. What a nightmare. Have mad appt at FPC 40 miles away tomorrow. Hope they'll take it out

Totally traumatised now. Went to FPC & Doc agreed with me that Mirena should come out. However threads were missing which I told the nurse last week. Had to have a scan to locate it & finally after about an hour she managed to find the threads & remove it. Am relieved but also angry at nurse for putting me through this & not listening to me. Had horrible pain in my side which has gone now. Doc said it was not fair how nurse treated me & she was going to put in a complaint. Can't help thinking what would have happened if I'd waited & the damn thing did me some damage floating around in there????

Poor you, I had one for a year - fine at first but after 6 months I had had enough - mood swings were the main problem. I gave it a year just in case things would "settle down". Once I had it out I was back to my old self within a week or two.

Just because the threads are not visible, does not mean the coil is in the wrong place. The fact that the threads where eventually found means the coil was in the correct place.

Hate to tell you this, but sometimes it takes up to 6 months for the mirena coil to be painfree and effective.

Some ladies just do not tolerate the mirena. Hope you find another method of contraception that suits you better.

i can't believe how many women have posted on here, i too am suffering terribly. 5 months in. God i wish i'd done my research first!!
to explain:- 20 days bleeding a month, with no improvement!!

You poor things - I have had the opposite; I had my first Mirena 15 years ago and it has been bliss bliss bliss since about 6 weeks after it went in.

Trouble is that it's expensive so surgeries want women to hang on to them not throw them away and have something else.
