Implanon contraceptive implant and irregular bleeding....

Has anyone got any knowledge or experience of this implant and the effects on your cycle?

I had the implant put in almost 3 months ago.
Before I had it, I had very regular 4 week cycles.
Since I had it put in I have been bleeding on and off very irregularly. Usually for at least 2 weeks at a time.
I have been bleeding (not heavily, but not that light either) now for 4 weeks straight.

The FP clinic did tell me that it can cause irregular bleeding, but I assumed this meant 'not a regular cycle' rather than 'constant bleeding'
They also said it would take about 3 months to settle down.

So having given it nearly 3 months, should I wait a while longer and see if it settles down more?
Is it likely to change the pattern I seem to be on now?
Or should I just book an appt to go get it removed and consider something else seeing as I do NOT want to be bleeding constantly for the next 3 years!!!

Any experience/advice??

yes this happened to me, cant remember the exact time but i bled for a lot more than four weeks.

i nearly lost my mind! my friends still mention it, my poor mum was feeding me with iron everytime she saw me.

the only reason i didn't go back to doctor was that i was a bit nervous of having it removed .

it did settle down after a while and i haven't had a period in over two years-result!

i'm delighted with it now. hang in there another while i'd say.

Oh thank god for that.
I have heard of people not bleeding at all on it and thought perhaps I would be the opposite and just bleed constantly for 3 years

I will give it a bit longer then and keep my fingers crossed that it stops soon!!!!!!

Bleeding irregularly or constant bleeding for the first few weeks happens in about 30% of users.

It may settle down. However, if it hasn't in the next few weeks I would recommend a trip back to the FPC. Sometimes internal infection can be causing the bleeding. If there is no infection and you want to keep the implant in, the next step would be to use the combined pill for 3 months back-to-back to stop to bleeding and hope it stays away once the pill is stopped. Its a strategy which is often successful. If all else fails, it is really easy to remove an implant.
