Help... does anyone know how much it costs to have a private cesarean if you have no health cover?

Tusscany, we live near Zürich in CH and headed down to Italy for my eldest son's school hols. I was on my own with the two boys (5yo and 17 mos) and it was still relaxing! For the April hols we're driving from here down to the Cilento. (!! I'm expecting it to be about 13 hours, but my mil and husband will be with us this time. Yay!)

Glad to hear that things are getting sorted. When is the baby due?

Not all private sections cost £10,000 - the Portland is the Savoy of private hospitals. You could always ring a few hospitals and ask how much they charge.

This is probably irrelevant now but I found some guide to the cost of a private c-section at the Portland here

"An elective caesarean at London's Portland hospital costs £2,878 for the operation alone."

HI..I gave birth 7 wks ago in an italian hospital... and lived to tell the tale! NOt so bad BUT I did have to book an epidurak 2 months in advance .. and had a casarean by accident, really. I say if you can afford it, go private! good luck. BTW the aftercare is ZERO. Rubbish.

3 years ago my Portland Hosp caesarian cost £10,000 and all other associated care cost another £4000. I distictly recall seeing on the list that the epidural cost £750!

Jaybee, it's not always that simple, I was born in Kenya (to English parents), if DH (army) was posted abroad I would have to return to the Uk to have a baby otherwise it would not be a British citizen
