Hysterectomy

Hi

My sister has to have an emergency hysterectomy next week and I want to get her some things for while she's in hospital and then recuperating at home afterwards.

Can anyone advise me what sort of things she'll need? I'm thinking perhaps that the scar might be quite uncomfortable and she'd be better with a nightshirt rather than PJs? Also, I don't know if it will perhaps be difficult for her to bend over for a while, so was going to get some slip on slippers.

Can anyone think of anything else she might need? She lives abroad so I need to buy the things today as my mum's travelling out tomorrow to see her.

TIA

She'll definitely need a nightshirt, as she'll probably have a catheter and drain in for the first few days. Also loose t-shirts and baggy tracksuit bottoms are good, as they shouldn't irritate her scar. A few bars of medicated soap would probably be useful too, I used it both times I had abdominal surgery and the scar never got infected.

Hope she recovers quickly after her surgery. All the best

sounds silly but I would get her some lovely hand cream, most hospitals tend to be overheated and patients are expected to use that alcohol gel when entering/leaving a ward
