One sided headaches. Does anyone else get these?

I have a headache on the left side of my head for the last two days. It is not severe, but I am aware of it for most of the day. It is not all over my head, just on the left side.
I have had spells of this in the past & put it down to my sinuses. It will then go away for a while & I forget about it.

I had rather a lot to drink round a friends house on Saturday night, so could it be a delayed reaction to the alcohol?
I am just concerned that it is always just the left side of my head that is affected, however it is not an unbearable pain.

Anyone had similar or know anything about these kinds of headaches?

I remember getting them for a spell when DS1 (now 9) was a baby. I would have been on the contraceptive pill then, but after DS2 was born, ex H had a vasectomy.
I have been back on the pill for just over a year now, as in a new relationship. I wonder if the pill could be linked to these headaches at all.

I get them all around my left eye on the week before my period. They're very painful and it feels like I'm winking at people for several days. One Nurofen tension headache tablet can usually take the edge off the pain whilst I'm at work; two tend to make me too sleepy.

Pinkchampagne · 29/10/2008 15:40

Yes I feel it around my left eye too, and sometimes it seems to travel to my nose, which is why I thought it could be sinus related, but I don't have a cold & the right side of my face is not affected at all.

sound like you have migrains (sp?) not headackes. Migranes are just one one side of the head. Headaches ares spread around the head on both side

FaintlyMacabre · 29/10/2008 15:52

Worth getting your teeth checked too. I had headaches like this for years- my dentist told me that I ground my teeth which is what caused them. I had a mouthguard to wear but just being aware of what I was doing made a big difference. I hardly get them at all now.

Pinkchampagne · 29/10/2008 16:04

But thought they were agony, needahand. These aren't severe, more annoying. Sometimes the pain is quite nervy. It seems to stick around for a while & then dissappear for months before coming back.

That's interesting, FM. When I first got them, I thought they may be related to my wisdom teeth.

You can have mild migrains, they are not always severe. If they stick around for a while, they definitely sound like migrains as they can come and go and stay for a few says and then you can have nothing for a while/weeks/months

BloodyStranglingwithBling · 29/10/2008 17:30

I get this, but on the right mostly. And I always assume it's sinus related. I often find if I rub the right side of the bridge of my nose or along the eye ridge (top or bottom) I feel the pain = sinus.

I think it's entirely normal for sinuses to be more prone to blocking on one side than the other. Doesn't mean you're sick or will get a cold, just that there's some pressure in your sinuses and that hurts.

ZipadiSuzy · 29/10/2008 17:39

I can sometimes get these on my right side affecting eye, eventually going down face and ear, can last up to ten days on and off! I thought it may be hormonal, but me thinks migrane

Pinkchampagne · 29/10/2008 22:18

Sounds very similar, only mine seem to affect left side. Sometimes feels like it is right under my eyeball, which led me to think it was maybe sinus related.

yes me

my left eye often hurts wit it

i think stress/hormones cause mine

Pinkchampagne · 31/10/2008 23:09

They seem to have got a bit worse & spread right over the left hand side of my face. I also felt a little unwell today, so feel it may well be my sinuses. Will give it until Monday & if it hasn't cleared up, I will see a doctor.

Sounds like a migraine.

Mine are on the left side, in my eye socket. I take a prescribed drug every day - I have to else I get 14 days pain every month. I didn't think mine was a migraine because I didn't have the classic symptoms - vomiting, visual disturbance etc, but the gp confirmed that it was a migraine because it was one-sided.

There's another thread at the moment about migraines.

Pinkchampagne · 03/11/2008 21:13

That's interesting, G&B, I really would never have thought of the possibility it could be a migraine. It feels like a nerve type pain. It feels worse if I press the side of my head, just around my ear, with my hand.
Had it on & off pretty much every day for a week now, so think a visit to my gp may be an idea.

sounds most likely to be a sinus infection. But, pain can refer into the face from the neck. Doesn't sound like migraine because of the history

Pinkchampagne · 03/11/2008 21:32

Always thought I should have cold symptoms with a sinus infection. Think I will get myself to the doctors as it isn't clearing & if it is an infection, I may need antibiotics.

i think its a tension headache, i get this something terrible, it feels like my eye will pop out, i get it if i stare at the screen for too long too. Migraine is a possibility, as is sinus, although sinus does tend to affect both sides no?

migraines can be weird, my friend suffers migraines, she has to go to bed but she doesnt get a head ache she just feels sick and has visual disturbances.

PC - you have been worried about your wee lad, do you think it could be stress? Maybe burn some essential oils to destress yourself?

Pinkchampagne · 03/11/2008 21:48

I thought sinuses affected both sides too, which is why I am not sure. If it was on both sides I would be convinced it was sinus related because it is often quite a nervy type pain & I can sometimes feel it moving around my eye & nose. The right side of my head & face is fine though.

Could be a tension headache - hadn't thought of that. these headaches alone are causing a certain amount of anxiety & I was also worried about DS's tummy pains last night. I am quite a stressy person at times, so it is a possibility.

Almost feels like a trapped nerve atm!

OP posts:
Grammaticus · 03/11/2008 21:49

I get them and I beieve they are migraines. They are not linked to my sinuses. I feel nauseous (but am not sick and still eat normally) and they always follow the same pattern. Migraleve pink seem to help, followed by 3 ibuprofen 4 hours later. Not much fun though. There is some hormonal link - because they vanish when I am pregnant.

Pinkchampagne · 03/11/2008 21:54

Strange isn't it? I do wonder if my pill is behind them at all. I see headaches are listed in the possible side effects, and my spell of them years ago, was when I was taking the pill. Oh I don't know - they are annoying me now though!
