I'm on the pill (microgynon) at the minute but am having a breast reduction in january and been told by my consultant i need to stop taking it. Dont know wether its to do with hormones affecting breasts and size etc but have no idea what other protection to go for? Dont like needles so not the injections.

Can't take the pill prior to surgery because it can cause blood clotting problems. Ditto with other hormonal forms of birth control so you probably couldn't use the injection anyway.
How about an intrauterine device (IUD)? Stays in there, no mess, no fuss. No nasty diaphragm to remember or condoms to mess with.
