How long should anti-biotics take to work or to put it another way when will I start to feel better?

Bad chest infection
I started anti-biotics on Monday
I don't feel significantly better
I also look like crap

Should they be working by now - or do I have unrealistic expectations?

Well I have woken up feeling loads better this am & I slept lying down last night - so I am monitoring the situation - I could go this afternoon or tomorrow am....but I am not sure if I'm still ill enough - I know I was yesterday

I think you need hour obs miss....and straight back if you don't coninue improving.

Glad you are feeling better though. Don't rush things.

KatyMac · 13/10/2008 20:55

OK by about 11 I was flagging by 2 I was back in bed

My appointment is at 9:10 tomorrow (with the same doc)

Ok,

I expect a report back by 9:15.....

...well given the likely wait at surgery and pharmacy to get your new ABs (I predict Erythro) I will expect you back by 12:00.

Seriously though. I hope you get this sorted. You know as well as any how poorly these things can make you if you don't get on top of them.

KatyMac · 13/10/2008 22:12

Ah no I live in the country - so I walk out of the Dr's room and queue up for my prescription there & then - it's lovely

Tbh I am not sure it isn't just post-viral/a relapse of my ME but I think I am best going t o the Doc to be sure

I really don't want it to be a relapse

DraculaNeedsArteries · 13/10/2008 22:22

Ah but so do I (just about).

I still had to wait 45mins for Abs and bronchodilators to be made up for a child with pneumonia that spent the whole time (literally) running rings round me in the pharmacist on friday

Whatever it is - I hope you do get sorted.

Elibean · 13/10/2008 22:27

Good luck, Katy, hope its just plain ordinary postviral fatigue and doctor prescribes something like a good holiday

fwiw, dh is beginning to think he's going to cough and be phlegmy forever, so I suspect these chesty coughy coldy infections are just stubborn bastards. Hope you have a good night.

KatyMac · 13/10/2008 22:28

That is the thing that is worrying me - I am really not coughing

I cough maybe 6-10 times during the day - which is wierd the way my chest feels

We had a long talk about being stressed/depressed & whether I needed Anti depressants then she asked how I was with the anti-biotics last week then she listened to my chest.

All the infection that was there last week is still there....so I am on Clarithromycin - 1 a day for 7 days

So I have decided I like this dr

I am so relieved that there is still a chest infection - I was so scared I was having a relapse

Katy that actually sounds like good news in a round about way.

As we said above Clathrimycin is teh bees knees so should do the job.

I am sorry you still have an infection, but you sound quite positive about it?

Hope you feel better physically and emotionally soon.

KatyMac · 14/10/2008 11:12

I agree - I am so relieved

OP posts:
Elibean · 14/10/2008 13:17

Good, positive action and no relapse. Understand the relief - we were beginning to think worse things than chest infections with dh, and were happy with the x-ray results that showed infection and nothing else.

And he does'nt cough at night at all, which is equally odd IME, but there you go - infection does not necessarily = cough!

Get well soon, Katy

KatyMac · 14/10/2008 17:31

Mind you ......I still feel crap

OP posts:
pinkteddy · 15/10/2008 23:00

Am sure you will see an improvement by late tomorrow. As I said earlier in thread when they put dd on clathromycin we saw a dramatic improvement in less than 48 hours. Hope you feel better soon.

KatyMac · 17/10/2008 11:38

Vaguely starting to feel not as crap - but I am a long way from feeling better

plus I have had a new crop of white hair - I guess being ill for 4 weeks takes it's toll

OP posts:
pinkteddy · 17/10/2008 19:58

Poor you sorry to hear you are still under the weather. Go back to docs on Monday if you are still not feeling right.

at crop of white hair!

KatyMac · 17/10/2008 21:11

My chest has started to get a bit looser tonight - so fingers crossed
