toddler complaining of itchy ear - following 2 courses of antibiotics - - any ideas?

my ds is 2.5 and has been complaining of an itchy ear. he started with a cold, then a chest infection and was given antibiotics. after the chest infection he was given a second course of antibiotics for an ear infection. after that he seemed to be better but only a few days later he is now complaining of an itchy ear.

any ideas on what is going on?

Sounds silly but has GP looked in his ear?
