So do chest infections & indigestion go hand in hand?

I wondered if indigestion is a symptom/side effect?

I had a chest infection last January and was coughing and wheezing so much I had reflux and vomiting each morning. Was given some tablets to help

KatyMac · 06/10/2008 19:38

Ah that makes sense

It's so uncomfy & sore

I guess they were antacids or something

I can deal with the vomiting it's the indigestion that is getting me down

Interesting thread. I've had a cough for several months now and antibiotics haven't helped. I've wondered why I've had heartburn/indigestion so much. Maybe I know why now.

KatyMac · 06/10/2008 21:21

It's not getting any better

I think you need to be careful

Colleague at work thought he had indigestion (because he had that sort of indigestion pain) - turns out he had a really nasty chest infection and the 'indigestion' pain he was getting turned out to be a more serious infection that they thought.

Not that I'm trying to worry you but if there's a lot of pain, I would go back to the GP.

KatyMac · 06/10/2008 21:34

I was there today

The GP said I had a very bad infection & has given me very strong antibiotics (blasted horse pills - they are enormous & very strong)

She said there wasn't any discussion about whether she could here any noise, merely about whether there was anywhere she couldn't here noise

So I am feeling very sorry for myself & I am praying (literally) that I don't give it to DH who has a Chronic Lung condition

KAty. I hope that you are feeling better soon.

KatyMac what do you mean by indigestion?

My friend thinks she has broken a rib with the strength of her coughing lately...

also please be careful with a/b's like that - try and take acidophilus or actimel or yakult in between doses.

Don't go near a hospital if you can help it either. I've had c diff after strong a/b's and that is a kind of indigestion you don't want to end up with!!

Hope you're better soon x

KatyMac · 07/10/2008 15:13

I mean a really bad pain just inthe middle where my boobs start - really hot and acid & painful

I am avoiding hospitals

I don't do well with yoghurt and stuff - is there a non milk version?

My dd2's homeopath always dishes out a probiotic powder to anyone who has had antibiotics for chesty things.

Frightattendent · 07/10/2008 15:26

Yes ask in Holland and Barrett or independant Health food shop - they;'ll have veggie/vegan caps you can take.

I don't know what the burning feeling could be but might be worth going back to Dr to get it seen to. Sounds really horrid

stleger · 07/10/2008 15:40

Dd2 takes probiotic powder on toast with nutella...

KatyMac · 07/10/2008 18:19

Thanks (I think - not much chance of me eating that either tbh - I am a wuss)

Erm I will try to - I promise (are you sure there aren't nice little tablets/capsules I can gulp?)

OP posts:
Frightattendent · 07/10/2008 18:47

Yes that'sw what I meant - acidophilus capsules from H&B!

KatyMac · 07/10/2008 18:50

Thank goodness

Thanks
