Since there are lots of 'nosey' posts at the moments.....

Have you seen any of your internal organs?

To start the ball rolling, I have seen my fallopian tubes

The absolute best was seeing my babies inside of me. Could have watched them for hours!

marthamoo · 01/03/2005 19:00

I saw my cervix too, while having a colposcopy. Which in itself is not that rare but gives me the opportunity to mention that..I broke the speculum (that thing they stick in there to crank you open). Quick squeeze of the muscles and it just disintegrated - the doctor and nurse fell about laughing and decided to try the industrial strength metal one instead. I obviously had a you-know-what like a steel trap.

Had being the operative word. This was pre-kids - doubt I could crush a grape now.

Haven't seen anything too weird of my own, but I've seen inside my sister....

She had a lump removed from her side under a local, and I held her hand whilst they did it. I thought it was very cool to actually see her ribs when they cut her open, but for some strange reason she doesn't like me to talk about it in front of her!

Furball · 01/03/2005 19:07

I've seen my brain! I had a tube fed into my groin and right up into my brain, where dyes were injected to see what was going on. (Before you lot say nothing ) I'd suffered a brain haemmorage. The doctor talked me through the whole thing with his x ray monitor.

Fastasleep · 01/03/2005 19:10

My placenta was cool! Loved staring at it in my entonoxy daze of hippy 'wooooooww'ness ...can't beat seeing your own brain though! Wow!

Fastasleep · 01/03/2005 19:11

Why your groin by the way?

HunkerMunker · 01/03/2005 19:11

I've seen my ovaries, various bits of intestine and my fallopian tubes. Also lots of endometriosis and adhesions

LGJ · 01/03/2005 19:12

I saw stars when they took bone marrow from my back without anasthetic does that count ?

HunkerMunker · 01/03/2005 19:12

I have a glorious technicolour photograph of it all - keep threatening to set it as DH's wallpaper on his laptop - funnily, he's not keen

Branster · 01/03/2005 19:14

nothing whatsoever. I'm actually very embarassed to confess that I never made much sense of the hospital scans whilst pregnant, or the photos I got from them which i used to carry around with me and show people. They were all going 'Ahhh, isn't that sweet! Look at tiny hands and legs' and I would just say' Yes, it's adorable'. Still ptrtty much clueless about it all and have never told anyone about it.

Fastasleep · 01/03/2005 19:16

Don't worry Branster a blob in a womb is a blob in a womb is a...

Fastasleep · 01/03/2005 19:16

But it's your blob

Furball · 01/03/2005 19:17

Fastasleep - I've got no idea, but that is the procedure. Quite bizarre.

Branster · 01/03/2005 19:17

Fastasleep
I'm sure everyone can 'read' the scans apart from me!

Fastasleep · 01/03/2005 19:18

I do remember that mine looked like he was smoking a large spliff with one arm behind his head and his legs crossed....but I think that was a later scan...he was just my cute mr blobby at first!

zippy539 · 01/03/2005 19:19

I saw the insides of my eyeballs during a regular eye test (something to do with refraction?) and although I've never seen my ovaries I did have them squeezed once during a rather rigorous smear test. Last one doesn't count for the sake of this thread but it was as traumatic as seeing the insides of my eyes so I felt I had to share!

happymerryberries · 01/03/2005 19:19

The reason that they go into the groin is that is is a good 'target' to get into blood vessels, they are reasonably close to the surface, fairly easy to get into and large enough to inject into, or snake a tube up into the blood vessel and thus round the body. When they do an angioplasty they put the tune in your groin and 'feed' it up to the heart to do the buisness

Wow - The things you learn on Mumsnet, thank you You'd of thought the doctor might of said something!

sansouci · 03/03/2005 23:01

fastasleep, you do make me lol!

"looked like he was smoking a large spliff with one arm behind his head and his legs crossed"

pixel · 04/03/2005 08:20

Insides of my eyeballs, insides of my breasts on a scan yesterday. And inside my pony's lungs in full colour when the vet put a camera down and let me have a look.

Oh and I did the checking stitches with a mirror thing. Not recommended!
