I had half of mine removed a year ago. I was in for 4 days and by the time I came out could eat just about anything (amazing how quickly it healed) I couldn't drive for about a week as I couldn't turn my head fully, but otherwise was fine. DS was 4 months old at the time and my mum stayed with me for a week (DH was working away from home at the time). I hope your DP recovers as quickly as I did - the whole process was much less traumatic than I had imagined it would be. If I were you I'd just buy some of his favourite food (and drink) to cheer him up and make him feel looked after. You know how men like to be pampered when they're poorly. A stock of DVDs/videos to keep him amused will always help.
