8 month old fretful and temperate of 38.3

All day my 8 month old DD has been fretful and more tired than usual.

I gave her calpol. We were out and I was unable to take her temperature but she felt very hot.

At home (an hour after calpol) she had had a 30 min nap, woke up grumpy and I took her temperature at 38.3

Everything that I can find says that 38.2 is fine at night. I am just worried about what her temp was pre calpol?

What would you advise?

We dream feed her at 10pm so can take her temperature again?

calpol isn't actually great at reducing temp in many children.

Ibuprofen tends to reduce temp a abit better, so I would offer her this when you feed.

she is also waking half hourly crying now that we have put her to bed (twice she has done this tonight), the dummy soothes her but she doesnt normally need a dummy at night time.

could be loads of things... alternate calpol and ibuprofen and keep the room airy... breast feed on request and if temperature gets higher and/or if DD seems to be worsening, call NHS Direct.

don't wake her to take temp but if she's up, check it. you could take her into your bed for the night to keep an eye. that's what I do with my two

ds had tonsilitis and high temp.
strip her, ibrufen if not already used.

Waiting for NHS nurse to call back (15 mins) or so.

Temp 39.2

Picked her up, she feels hot but is sleeping. She is a bit chesty sounding (she had a cold last week)

A doctor is going to call me within 4 hours

I suppose that must be good as we are obviously non urgent.

DH gone to get Ibrufen (we only have calpol)

She is still crying every half hour.

Sounds like what my dss have just had, high temp but nothing else really specific except a runny nose and the odd tickly wet cough. We were advised to give regular ibuprofen (max 3 doses per day) with calpol in between if temp still high. Minimal clothing, sponge down with tepid water (not cold) and we also put a desk fan on while ds2 (10 months) was sleeping.

It all lasted for 5 days, they were sick once and then were miraculously better.

If her temp goes over 40 pop her down to A&E as they'll be able to deal with her temp better.

babies deal with high temperatures pretty well so try not to freak out... my 2 have had 39+ temps and been fine apart from restlessness and irritability.

don't hesitate to take her into hospital tho if you're worried and definitely give her ibuprofen at the next opportunity then alternate the two.
