Don't have a coil myself but many womwn do have them without many probs at all. The offer nearly 100% protection and if all is well you don't have to think about them for 5 yrs!!! On the down side some women can have worse cramps and heavier bleeding at first but that should settle in time.if you struggle with the hormonal type contraceptives the coil can be a really good option !!! HTH

I had a coil for three years and it was my favourite contraceptive! Nothing to think about for ages and no hormones. Having it put in wasn't very nice but having no worries for all that time made it well worth it.

aaarrggghhhh - understatment of the decade!! It was my worst experience after childbirth - or maybe I'm just a softee?

But it is a wonderfully hassle free way of contraception.

Hmmm I had my coil before childbirth which has probably made the memory less painful!!!

But yes it was not a good experience and sadly there is no way round the pain...

Had mine fitted two weeks ago and yes it flippin hurts.
Had the injection but had a period for 3 months so decided to change but still on blinkin period its now 4 months near enough !!!!

zoe - im still on my periods too and docs said it takes up to 6 months before my periods stopped altogether (im on mirena coil) and it is going lighter but the first 3 days of periods im still on the heavy side

my docs just looked at me and with a big hmmmmmm said " bet that gets you down " !!!!! could of slapped her !!!!

Mine was fairly painful to put in but that's because they had trouble finding my cervix (have a retroverted uterus - just means it points a different way) - it was like they mounted a search party in my vagina - torches pointing in all directions, 2 doctors fiddling about - after 5 minutes, I was going to volunteer to find it myself when ping, they caught sight of my cervix and in it went. I had cramps for around 3 days afterwards and then no more pain.

I was advised to have it for heavy periods - I bled constantly for around 6-8 weeks and had very sore boobs (quite a common initial side effect apparently). Since then I've had no bleeding but I can feel I'm about to get another period now. It's been OK - my skin has definitely deteriorated though but it is the most hassle free contraception I've ever had.

well i only bled heavy for 2 - 3 weeks when they first inserted the coil and i had the cramps for nearly a month

I don't know what's normal!! The doctor told me that because I have heavy periods I was more likely to bleed heavier and longer after it was inserted - so maybe if you don't have heavy periods, you bleed for a lot less.

What methods have you tried ??

You can always try it out and if it doesnt agree with you then you can have it taken out. the heavy period side of it - not every one have heavy periods (im a heavy period person)

I had also completely run out of options (had to discount the pill, had the injection and never stopped bleeding etc.) and I must say, I have completely forgotten the hassle of it being put in and the initial bleeding because it is SO easy.

I mean, not having to remember to take anything (the pill) is great and the % pregnancies is very low so I feel safe with it in.

hmmmmmmmmmmm cant suggest anything else sorry.
