SPEECH THERAPY advice pls.

I have my 1st ever appointment with a speech therapist coming up shortly and have no idea what to expect. I have been told it will last an hour. I'm a bit nervous about it to be honest.
Any advice at all would be more than welcomed.

With children they observe them playing/chatting first and then ask them to name things in a book. Presumable with adults they would chat to them first and then probably get them to run through a list of words to say out load, or perhaps sentences - or even both.

I'm a salt.
It will be pretty relaxed i assure you.
Salt will do a case history which will involve asking you lots of questions and then will observe yuor child playing and maybe play with her and try out some assessments.

Ask questions, don't be afraid to say what you feel and if you have a lot of things to discuss, write them down beforehand.

The appointment is for me (adult). I have no speech problems as such and am able to make myself understood.

My problem is that I have a fault with my vocal chords which means they dont close completly. My aunt was diagnosed with the same problem and unfortunetly by the time they found the fault it was too late to prevent her losing her voice altogether. Their aim for me is to either re train the chords to close (doubtful as it has probably always been the case) or at the least, prevent it from deteriorating further (aunt was 20yrs older than I am now).
Will the session be quite intense and will they give me some "homework" to do on my own?

My aunt has since passed away so i'm unable to ask her.

I would think you would get "homework" to do, with speech disorders it is little and often IME of course with your vocal chords it could be very different. Have you looked up the condition on the internet to see what treatment there is/is recommended?

I don't work with this sort of patient but would also be a case history, examination and doubtless stuff for yuo to do at home.
