recovery time after pneumonia

How long?

Dh been in hospital 2 nights now, but looking good for getting home tomorrow.

He says he's going back to work on monday, and is only waiting until mon because I called his boss today and told him not to expect him in the rest of the week.

He loves his work, but it can be very demanding and stressful; mentally and physically. I'm concerned he's going to rush back to work before he's fully recovered.

Anyone have any experience of this?

MY dh had chickenpox pneumonia - in ITU for 2 days and on ward further 2 days. Back to work after 3 weeks.

My DD1 aged 3 had Pneumonia,she was advised to stay away from playgroup for two weeks when she came home as her Immunity was low,and she was also quite weak,as she'd lost quite a bit of weight,but children "bounce back" quicker than adults,so it may be a few weeks before he has enough energy to return to a full days work.

Now just how to convince him he is not going to be well enough by monday!!

I had mild peumonia at easter...was treated at home.

I had 10 days off work, and was on light duties for another 1-2weeks.

It really knocked me for 6.

I had pneumonia a few years ago and so did BIL recently, both hospitalised. There is no way he is going back to work next week if he's been in hospital. He will need another week of rest as even just going up the stairs and showering is tiring. I had a relapse two weeks later and got put back on antibiotics (had to do a long haul flight a week after getting out of hospital to go to a funeral). Is there any possibility of doing some work from home - would keep his boss happy and would give your DH something to keep him being bored. Hope he feels better soon.

He won't want to go back come Monday. Honest.

Am bumping this as need some more advice.

Dh got home from hospital, was given some antibiotics. He has appointment for our own dr on tues (bank hol weekend here).

Meanwhile can anyone give me some advice re caring for him at home. His cough sounds so sore. Can he be given cough medicine? His temp is really high- have given him paracetomal.

As you've said, he's very tired and is easily exhausted, but is also very very bored. He is NOT the type to sit around doing nothing and it's driving him mad that he can't do anything. Have suggested computer games/ gentle wii games. He wants to go to the gym (sauna/ jacuzzi) but I'm worried about low immunity, more infection just now.

Anyone who's been through this, what helped you? Is there any more I can be doing for him and any activites that can help keep him occupied.

Sorry to keep going on about this, amjust so shocked by how badly this has affected him. Very worried about him and terrified I don't look after him well enough and make him worse.

(have already been told by mil he has this as he wasn't being looked after!)

I had pneumonia in 2006 and am still recovering. There are many types though so depending in what kind her had can depend on recovery. I ended up with bacterial pneumonia which I did not treat for 3 weeks.
Fast forward 2 years and I now have pneumonia induced asthma, get bronchitis and chest infections every winter and my lung capacity is severly reduced.
It really really knocks your body around. He needs lots of rest doing very little. Cough mixture is useless. Agree with the steam. That helps. Drink lots of water and rest...says the person who is developing a chest infection and is at work right now

No havent tried it. Can you take it with vitamin C and iron supplements also? I know there are some vitamins you cant mix.
I will try anything.

I am not a fan either but did not want to say anything in case I offended you. The iron is mixed with the vitamin C so you dont feel ill when taking it.
I think I will stick to my nice chemically ventolin

I am at home. I am a nanny and both parents conveniently forgot that both would be out of the country so ended up having to work this weekend. I am being such a bad nanny. I am letting them sleep in or watch dvd's
