bad nails - what nutrients am I missing

I've got really bad nails, they split and break all the time, when they do I tear them off with my teeth and then get hangnails. I'm embarrassed for anyone to see them.

They are genetically bad, but I noticed that they improved over the summer but are worse than ever now. The only thing i can think I was eating differently over the summer was loads of fresh tomatoes.

The 1 1/2year old dts had good nails to start with but they don't look too good either at the moment.

What are we missing in our diet?

Tomatoes have lots of Vit C, so could be that. Are you getting enough calcium?

Vitamin c - noted, but I am drinking a big glass of orange juice at the moment and taking iron supplement with vit.c in it.

How much is enough calcium? MAybe I was eating more cereal in the summer, could be something in that or the extra milk i was putting on it.

Could well be. How about a couple of yoghurts a day?
