Do you smoke too much, want to cut down, but now actually quit ???? (sorry this is not a "quitting" thread)..

FAQ · 22/09/2008 11:10

Come and join me please. I don't want to quit, I just want to cut down (dramatically) , so please don't come and tell me "well just quit" - thank you

I smoke roll-ups now, and as I roll them as I want one my smoking has got totally ott. Unlike a packet - where you can see how many you've got/had I only have the evidence in the ash tray at the end of the day - and it's not good (I think I must be smoking close to 40 some days if not more )

Last night I sat down before I went to bed and pre-rolled 20 and put them in my cigarette tin. I've figured that 1 per hour during the day (if the DS's will let me escape long enough) and then I@ve got a few extra for after they've gone to bed).

It's been tough going so far, the amount of times I've reached over to roll one........then realised I have them ready rolled and that actually it hadn't been long since my last one is quite shocking. However the one per hour is working so far (I'm currently trying to kill time to leave my one for this hour 11-12 as late as possible).

So - do any other smokers (who don't want to quit -but just cut down like to join me?

mummylin2495 · 23/09/2008 11:03

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 23/09/2008 11:06

i know but people keep phoning me. its very inconsiderate of them! bah! my sister has just phoned to say i dont have to collect neice anymore so i will have to find another distraction untill 1pm.

DanJARMouse · 23/09/2008 11:09

FAQ · 23/09/2008 11:20

Having my 3rd (and last) of the morning now.

Got to pick DS2 up at 11.45, then by the time I've given DS3 his milk, got him down for a nap and sorted lunch out for DS2 and me it's going to be getting on for 1pm. I MUST try and do some ironing today if I do that it'll keep me busy for while.

OP posts:
DanJARMouse · 23/09/2008 11:25

Well ive had lunch, pottered on here, generally stopped the kids killing each other.

Am going to have number 4 in a minute, not sure I can last any longer. Last one was 10am.

Might just sort some washing before i do though!

FAQ · 23/09/2008 11:28

Go sort the washing first - then reward yourself

OP posts:
DanJARMouse · 23/09/2008 11:39

did the washing... all hung on the airer, another load on.

had number 4, although didnt enjoy it - its too blardy cold out there today.

Am going to go upstairs, get changed (too cold for skirt!) and sort the mess upstairs!!!

My house is going to LOVE all the attention!!!

mummylin2495 · 23/09/2008 11:56

i have promised myself one for 12pm and not a second before .So that will be 4 in total for this morning. [I got up not long after 7am] which i will be quite pleased with because i do sometimes have one right after another !!!Now all my ironing is up to date i havent got enough room in the wardrobes !!!

DanJARMouse · 23/09/2008 12:01

have now tidies upstairs, made all the beds, put all the clothes away.

Have also hoovered downstairs as DH tidied it while I was upstairs.

DD1 is now getting ready for school. We are going to drop her off and then run over to Sainsburys to pick up the few bits I couldnt get in Morrisons this morning.

Then I will drop DH and DD2 and DS off at home and go back to the school for Harvest Tea.

At least by having a bust afternoon, should take my mind off the fags!!!

Ironing will wait til tonight - got a huge pile but cant do it with DS and DD2 running around, far too dangerous!!

Maybe we should turn this into a "distract yourself from smoking by doing the housework" thread!!!

DaphneMoon · 23/09/2008 12:09

The problem is with all this cleaning you will all end up with OCD but well done so far

mummylin2495 · 23/09/2008 12:19

have just had my 4th ,now will get to 2pm or maybe later if i try really hard.If i just sit here i will be ok ,or maybe go and have a nice bubble bath.I have only 3 left and that is my target for today.[7]

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 23/09/2008 12:38

arrrrgh i want a cigarette NOW! im putting away last nights ironing then i will have one.

FAQ · 23/09/2008 12:39

I'm just holding off for my next one - fancy one now, but DS3 still awake - and picking at some lunch - he'll need milk after that then he'll go to bed and I'll have some lunch - after which I'll want a cigarette - so I'm going to hang on for that

I Smoke Because I Like Smoking!

----------------

Ask almost any current smoker why she continues to indulge in such a dangerous habit and she will normally reply, "Because I like smoking." While she may say this in all honesty, it is a very misleading statement, both to the listener and to the smoker herself. She does not smoke because she enjoys smoking, rather she smokes because she does not enjoy not smoking.

Nicotine is a powerfully addictive drug. The smoker is in a constant battle to maintain a narrow range of nicotine in her blood stream (serum nicotine level). Every time the smoker's serum nicotine level falls below the minimum limit, she experiences drug withdrawal. She becomes tense, irritable, anxious and, in some cases, even shows physical symptoms. She does not enjoy feeling these withdrawals. The only thing that will alleviate these acute symptoms will be a cigarette. The nicotine loss is then replenished and, hence, the smoker feels better. She enjoyed smoking.

A smoker must also be cautious not to exceed his upper limit of tolerance for nicotine or else suffer varying degrees of nicotine poisoning. Many smokers can attest to this condition. It usually occurs after parties or extremely tense situations when the smoker finds themselves exceeding their normal level of consumption. They feels sick, nauseous, dizzy and generally miserable.

Being a successful smoker is like being an accomplished tight rope walker. The smoker must constantly maintain a balance between these two painful extremes of too much or too little nicotine. The fear which accompanies initial smoking cessation is that the rest of the ex-smoker's entire life will be as horrible as the first few days without cigarettes. What ex-smokers will learn is that within a short period of time, the physical withdrawal will start to diminish. First, the urges will weaken in intensity and then become shorter in duration. There will be longer time intervals between urges. It will eventually reach the point where the ex-smoker will desire a cigarette very infrequently, if ever. Those who continue to smoke will continue to be in a constant battle of maintaining their serum nicotine level.

Included in this battle is the great expense of buying pack after pack and the dangerous assault on the smoker's body of inhaling the poison nicotine along with over 4,000 other toxic chemicals which comprise the tars and gasses produced from the combustion of tobacco. These chemicals are deadly by themselves and even more so in combination.

So the next time you think of how much you once seemed to enjoy cigarettes, sit back and take a serious, objective look at why you have such an idealization of this dangerous product. Consider all the consequences. You will probably realize that you feel physically and mentally better now than you ever did as a smoker. Consider all of this and - NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PUFF!

agrees with FAQ you should change your name to FAG UCC,we are doing well in trying to cut down ,for us its a big step so we dont need anyone throwing facts and figures at us.Leave us to do things in our own way and who knows eventually we may be down to nil.At least we are trying to do something rather than nothing.

DaphneMoon · 23/09/2008 12:55

Where did you cut and paste that little gem from?

Yes FAQ is right you are on the wrong thread. I am an ex smoker as mentioned before but not an antismoker so I am reading these threads because I am interested in how they are getting on and some of it is amusing because I have been there etc.

Go to a thread where people want to hear about quitting.

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 23/09/2008 12:56

sorry UCC but i really do enjoy smoking. i dont care if i am fooling myself, smoking makes me happy, smoking is my time, for me. i wont give that up.
