Large Swelling in Armpit

Hi, i have a swelling in the bottom half of my left armpit, it goes across my whole armpit, it is soft and its not sore, there is no redness. Its been there for a couple of months and i just keep touching it to see if it is still there. On occassion when my arms are by my sides i can feel it under there but the vast majority of the time wouldnt have a clue it was there. Is it just a swollen gland?

Ive been having a stressful time of late, is it just that? Ive a cold at the mo which doesnt help and have just had my period but its been there since well before that. I get stabbing headaches and i feel really angry a lot (rship is a bit crap at mo) do you think its just symptomatic of the stress? I definitely dont feel myself at the moment.

Sorry to go on, i think i probably just want someone to say chill out its just the stress, thankyou for listening/reading

I don' think your doctor will bruah you off. Agree with everyone else - you need to go and let her look at it. Please don't put it off any longer.

gigglewitch · 19/09/2008 23:20

defo one for the doctor. if you've been bf in the last few months it might be possible that it is a blocked duct - but really, it has to be one for a medical opinion.
glad to hear you're gonna make an appointment. Just do it, it will put you out of your worrying misery.

It sounds like a gland but it needs checking if it is this big.
You need to see your GP on Monday, he/she will send you off for some blood tests and possibly an ultrasound. Don't worry, it's standard practice but you need to go. You may just be really run down. Let them do some checks. They won't think you are a twonk!

Could be a swollen gland. Try stopping using antiperspirant on that arm in case it is something to do with that.

But you know you need to go to the doctor, for your own piece. The worry won't go until you get a medical opinion.

could be a cyst. I had one the size of a golfball under my arm that came up really quickly. Get to the doctor quick though and let us know what they say.

Hi all, i saw the doctor today, though the swelling had gone down a bit in between making the appt and going! (typical yet good!)
She could feel it was definitely there and that it was soft cell tissue that was swollen as opposed to my gland (so could possibly be a cyst), she said that for now i should keep an eye on it, if it continues and doesnt go away or gets hard then to go see her again, or if it gets bigger then to go again so she can have another feel.

She was very nice and i feel reassured as i believe had she thought it was a concern then she would have done something about it so i'll just have to keep giving myself a feel in the shower
