anyone ever had Nasal polyps?

anyone had them? what was done?

I am terrified of having anything up my nose

Yes, had nasal polyps - basically permanently sinusy, lost sense of smell, painful face whenever I had a cold etc etc. Polyps don't have to be huge to block sinuses & cause a problem.

Went on for years & at times made my life really miserable. Eventually had an op (general anaesthetic, chopped out polyps & cleared out gunk from sinuses) and felt immediately better. Had 2 weeks off work - recommended largely to prevent exposure to infection more than need to physically recover. Was far less painful than I'd expected.

Downside is that they are almost certain to come back again and again, so likely to have to have op done again sometime.

I think I have one too - what nasal spray did you use zippi? What did the GP prescribe?

I tend to use flixonase (which I have anyway for hayfever) which seems to help "shrink" it and unblock my sinuses for a while, but it isn't really in the "uses" description for the meds. Wondered if it was the same sort of thing anyway.

My dad has them. He didn't want the op but controls them with oral steroids when they flare up and a regular nasal spray. Worse in summer than winter. Actually since starting the steroids and regular nasal spary they rarely bother him.

will brave the docs!! Most prob isnt them, but I know I have some kind of problem

i went to the gp about twenty years ago cant remember which spray i was given then

i didnt use any for ages but then i got fed up this year and used flixonase

i cant breathe through my nose

i think this is why i found scuba diving so stressful

Well if it works and the other alternative is an op...

... don't think I need an op yet - only bothers me for a couple of weeks after a bad cold, or if hayfever is bad. Had loads of sinus infections until I twigged and started to use flixonase the second I felt it swelling.
