Thrush with Period?

The last two months I seem to get my period but it is also mixed with a sweet smelling discharge. The bleeding itself is not light but not like a usual monthly bleed with clots etc....

Last month I thought it might be thrush but it went with my period. This month it has happened again. I have used the thrush products. Im certain it's not an STD

Any ideas????

Not really But my cycle only lasts 4 days and so I cant really tell

I'm sure thrush & periods are related, something to do with the vaginal acid/alkali balance being disturbed. Lots of thrush remedies you can try but may be worth going to see GP.

some women do get thrush at the time of their period due to the hormonal changes but i would expect you to have other symptoms ie; itching soreness or swollen vulva does this sound familiar? It may be worth having a full screen for all possible vaginal infections though as some STI's can lay dormant for ages. also if you went for swabs close to when your period is due the nurse may acually be able to see the thrush higher up in the vagina if thats what it is!11 HTH

i've had this twice in a row,thrush and period together i now take actimel and natural yogurts before i'm due it's supposed to help.

I had thrush appear with every period for 5 long years. It really got me down. It cleared after giving birth to my DS over 2 years ago, and hasn't reared it's ugly head since. Havn't read all the thread, but do sympathise, and would say that it's definately some sort of imbalance down there with the change of acidity that the period brings. I found that if I'd had a drink (wine) it would be worse.

That is really strange, I usually find that if I am getting the start of thrush and my period is due, my period clears up the thrush. I don't think I've ever had both at same time. I do find that some sanitary towels cause irritation tho, especially cheaper ones.

To clarify, It would appear as soon as the period finished. I've had all sorts of theories over the years, including, was it my DS reinfecting me, was it shampoo, shower gel, bathing too much, tampax, sex, wine, etc.,..

But, when my DS appeared, the thrush disappeared for good. Hey, why not have a baby - worked for me

Joking aside, ask to see a specialist if at all possible, it really is a misery isn't it. DH used to refer to me (in gest) as acid fanny. Which is how I felt.

I meant - was it my DH reinfecting me! Can't get used to all the acronyms!

Hi there,
I get thrush after every period, sometimes more and it's really getting me down. I have three children (youngest is 2) and it has occurred every month for the past 16 months. I am on a course of Flucanozole which is doing nothing. My Dr is going to swab to check if it is caused by anything else.
In the meantime, has anyone had the same problem and do you know if changing tampons/sanitary towels can help? Since it most usually triggered in the last or second to last day of my period, I'm wondering if that is the cause? Can anyone recommend organic tampons?
I really hope I can get to the cause of this as it's causing me increasing distress and my relationship is suffering.:-(

Ever since I started my periods at 14 I'll get thrush now and then at the time of my period,
I'm now 23 and have had two kids and it's still the same case. I think cause of the hormones it keeps knocking the ph level or when I'm using tampons. Some times it goes by itself, sometimes I'll need medication. Doesn't happen every time but I defo get it quite frequently.

Got thrush for the first time and I have just "come-on". I have made a gp appointment as it has been sore for 5 days and have taken the tablet and used the cream.
is it recommended to use a sanitary towel or tampax???

Can I recommend sacromyces boulardi and bididiiotics for thrush treatment. Can buy both on Amazon.

Also actimel daily will help.

I suffered daily for three years as I was prescribed life long antibiotics. My quality of life was poor as the antibiotics ran me down and the thrush was like a vicious cycle. It was so uncomfortable I couldn't get on with my daily life. The doctors couldn't sort it for me and eventually I saw a nutritionist privately who had me sorted quickly. The above products are the best. I don't even need to take them now but do keep a supply for emergencies.

Normal sanitary towels/ panty liners are made from recycled plastic which is steeped in chlorine over and over again. This can be an irritant and can cause thrush. You can buy organic 100% cotton sanitary protection such as natracare but there are other brands too that may help you. They cost more to buy then regular supermarket brands but worth it if that helps you. Just a suggestion. Hope you get better soon

I've had experienced the same problem! I always got thrush whilst I was on my period. Now I'm using Yoppie which is organic and you can buy the box accordingly to your flow!

My thrush hasn't revisit since I changed my products and I will never go back to mainstream period care!
