Pear drops smell just mean she hasn;t eaten very much- so she's respiring fats rather than siugars.

The problem is once they start doing that it can make them very nauseous. When ds1 gets like this he htne throws everything up. I've found that making a very weak herbal (not fruit) tea, adding a couple of spoons of sugar and letting it cool works with him. Dioralyste or something would help as well if she'll take it.

No - but seeing your post makes me wonder about my dd!

She had what i thought was a 24hr sickness bug about a week and a half ago, but ever since she has slept during the day (which she grew out of sometime ago) and actually asked to go to sleep (never done in her life before) most nights, and hasn't been eating much at all. And yes drinking lots also, no bad breath that i have noticed though!

I had put it down to still "getting over" the sickness bug.

I hope thats all it is for you dd also, but does sound wise to take her to GP, i think i will if my dd goes on another week like this.

Sounds like tonsilitis maybe. Def a visit to the GP for reassurance though! Best of luck

Hiya

My DD (age 6) is similar-ish. Keep catching little bugs these last few weeks.. seems to get over them quickly and then go down with something else. I have bought some Minadex Vitamin tonic which, in the past, seems to have improved her appetite.. maybe you could try that? It's a yummy orangey flavour liquid.. at least DD says it's yummy!

my dd has glandular fever, shes 4. It first occurred when she was nearly 3. Lots of similar symptoms. I missed her most recent bout because of all the bugs that have been going around. Hope it's not this !

yep pear drops = ketones--- try and get some sugar into her. If the ketones are makking her feel sick she won't want to eat and it ends up a vicious circle.

Try lucazade to pep up her blood sugars in the short term.

ds1 won't drink herbal tea unless he's really ill - he doesn't drink anything except water or orange juice usually and orange juice is a bit acidic on a peuky tummy. just add a spoonful of sugar to anything she will drink and then try to get sips into her. Or dioralyte if she'll have it.

in the lucozade vein people always say flat coke as well don't they (same idea- lots of sugar). I woudn't put a coke anywhere near ds1 but might be worth trying if she'll drink that- just don't give the diet version!

Crikey! My DS (3) is going through this as well, was ill about 3 weeks ago but now has nasty cough and cold and has also been asking to go to bed at 6.30pm and sleeping right through til 6.30am, which he has never done in his life. And will also grab a nap in the day. I just put it down to the bug wiping him out. He also has the breath problem, which DH blaimed me for for not cleaning his teeth properley!!
