For anyone who wants a boost to their general health (and to talk bobbins with a load of fruity nutters). The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

that's awful Toot
you must be worried sick

filthymindedvixen · 23/09/2008 12:44

oh welcome back into our fruity folds Stuffit! i think parsnips need a cold snap of frost in need to prosper.. (ha!)

TooTicky · 23/09/2008 13:09

fmv, can you please tell me what veg I should be planting in the autumn? I haven't really donec autumn planting before.

Fruity folds is a very iffy term I think. Sort of squelchy.

Stuffit, he is actually coping brilliantly atm - you wouldn't know he had a problem unless you knew. Not looking forward to the op though, especially as there are whispers of possible complications.

pinkspottywellies · 23/09/2008 13:33

FMV my parsnips haven't had a frost yet but we're eating them. Think they'll improve with a cold snap though. I'm quite please with my planting this year. It's taught me what to do next year so everything doesn't come at once! I want to plant some more things now for over the winter. Could I have potatoes in a very shaded patch? Or indeed anything else?

I've been very well thanks Stuffit. Some tired moments but no sickness to speak of. And I was thinking Feb will be nice - we can all stay snuggled in the house until it gets warmer and then start going out!

TooT are they expecting complications or just warning you of every eventuality? They do have to explain it all very fully don't they?

BBB I don't know what you're talking about [innocent] it must be one of your other fb friends (In my defence it was homemade tiffin which is practially just raisins and milk like the nutella advert)

TooTicky · 23/09/2008 13:40

Pink, they don't tell you anything. I have been doing my own research.

Are you still running?

pinkspottywellies · 23/09/2008 13:44

TooT DON'T GOOGLE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No haven't run for a while. Was going to run down friend's house the other week then realised how dark it gets so early now. Might try and do some more round here and have been steppering and yoga-ing a couple of times a week though.

TooTicky · 23/09/2008 13:48

I haven't googled much. There is a site about children's cataracts - very useful and non-sensational.

I can't imagine running when pg. Walking yes, but running is so jolty-bouncy.

pinkspottywellies · 23/09/2008 13:57

I did really need to wee last time I ran Then I was ok when I slowed to a walk!

I am an optimist. I would assume that the op will go fine and he'll be fully sighted again in no time. It must be very difficult to be more of a worrying type. (Sorry if that's come out wrong. I was trying to word it nicely, because it's meant nicely. I'm not suggesting you're worrying unnecessarily or anything. Just that I am blinkered and go 'it's all fine'.) ((((((((hugs))))))))

TooTicky · 23/09/2008 14:01

Yes, I know what you mean. I am optimistic on t6he whole, just feel very responsible.

Don't talk to me about needing to wee!!! I seem to be on a vicious wee/dehydrate/drink/wee cycle atm and I'm not even pg!!

TigerFeet · 23/09/2008 15:12

Stuffit, hello Are my mangoes in the post?

Aww Toot, do you have a date yet? DD has an appt next week at the eye clinic. DH is taking her, I am at work, they had no appts available on my days off. I hate that I can't go. They keep mentioning ops but being wafty and vague about it. Hey ho.

Pink you are amazing. I ground to a halt whilst pg and tbh have never got going again.

Rocket
Banana
Cherry Toms

Mahoosive salad and pizza for tea.

OsmosisBanana · 23/09/2008 16:12

Am in a quandry - freshers fair tomorrow.

Do I join the netball soc despite not having played since I was 18? I was quite good, but 11 years is a long time... I will feel a fool.

am about to make spinach and goats cheese muffins for the freezer for lunch boxes. That's fairly impressive I think.

Glad DS is coping with eye TooT, must be horrendously worrying all the same.

filthymindedvixen · 23/09/2008 17:26

Ha! Autum planting [bitter]

I had kale, carrots, spinach, and brassicas to plant before september. Then the rain came. And stayed. My plot was underwater and I missed my time slot for autumn veg

Will hopefully be able to plant some spouts, rocket, spinach and broad beans, hardy lettuce, cabbages in autumn as can leeks, beets, carrots, turnips, parsnips, radishes, and rutabagas

OP posts:
Guadalupe · 23/09/2008 18:17

I played on the netball team, and hockey too, wing defence. I still have a clear image of thighs, mottled and purple and in some cases, quite formidable. I barely do any exercise these days.

Chicken and bacon and mushroom casserole for dinner. I need comfort food for the cold.

I am in admiration of vegetable growers. I like the idea but in reality I am a slacker.

filthymindedvixen · 23/09/2008 18:19

OB, they won't play any actual games. All socs are just an excuse to get drunk, and you know it

OP posts:
OsmosisBanana · 23/09/2008 19:00

no no no! There will be exercise. Have to drive back to Briz from Bath so no drinking. Bums.

Boco · 23/09/2008 19:12

Hello, Stuffit good to know you're settled and like OB said, can't believe you're bemoaning lack of parsnips when you have mangoes and bananas in your garden! That sounds wonderful.

Am fed up. We hadn't done a shop due to being in hospital, and couldn't go and get food today as dd not up to the walk as still quite under the weather and sleepy, so dp went straight from work - his card was refused at the checkout so he got bare essentials on visa. Bloody money shitty shitty shit. But now we have cabbage stir fry. I want STEW. Or PIE. Or anything really as it's ten past seven and the children haven't eaten. And dp having a tantrum about his crappy job and banging around. But he bought 2 bottles of wine! I am tired and cold and cross.

And have NOT had any fruit or vegetables.

littlerach · 23/09/2008 19:19

Gah, spoke too soon..
Had to drag dd2 into school otday, with tears et al.

I had to dash before I cried too

She kept asking to stay home with me.

And i saw her crying in her classroom after break.

She is so titchy.

But she has not been sleeping at all, so neither have I. She has very vocal dreams and wake dus all up.

And then on Friday, our credit card got done, or cloned or whatever it's called.
So that was cancelled.
And dh's overtime wasn't paid.
So a quiet weekend.
And a cheap one!

PITA really.

Hello Stuffit! garden sounds amazong. Or even amazing.

littlerach · 23/09/2008 19:25

Oh, forgot to ask.

suffolk fruity ones

can you recomend a nice, but cheap, hoyel, or B&B, or a holiday cottage type thing for me?

wea re visiting a friend near Stowmarket ish, and am fed up of looking!

Framlingham, Aldeburgh, anywhere nice.

TIA>

pinkspottywellies · 23/09/2008 19:31

Boco sod the lack of veg. Drink the wine. It's grapes and I give you exceptional leave to count it in your 10/10

OsmosisBanana · 23/09/2008 19:50

I would give my eye teeth for a glass of wine.

I have no fillings or even holes needing fillings. Any takers?

Red please......

What a shiteous time Boco. Would a muffin straight out the oven be any good? Or cauliflower cheese? I'm fresh out of pie.

Guadalupe · 23/09/2008 20:11

I have had far too much wine but luckily seem to have avoided parting with teeth for it.

Dh is home from Milan. He asked me if I wanted anything in thr airport and I said no. Now I am thinking there are all sorts of things I could have asked for. Perfume. Gin. Moistoriser. Perhaps a dictionary so that I could spell it.

Boco - sorry for your evening of bickering and brassicas. Come here and we will have a splendid lunch. I am making OB'S halloumi pittas for everyone at every opportunity but I expect I will tire of that soon.

OsmosisBanana · 23/09/2008 20:26

there is no tiring of halloumi. Once it's got a hold of you man....... there's no going back

mou · 23/09/2008 20:32

Grrrrrrrrr.....grumpy mou can't do link to show her bag and wants to show off. Having a toddler like tantrum. Get link on the page but it won't open, am going to sulk in the corner and will try again tomorrow.
Had a lovely walk with a friend, nothing great on f&v, just usual and lots of nuts. oh and warm stewed apples and ice-cream, mmmmmm, to die for.

Guadalupe · 23/09/2008 20:34

although I just remembered that halloumi reminds Boco of solidified sweat, so maybe she's not for converting.

Boco · 23/09/2008 20:39

It does yes. Little solidified sweat packages. Is unnerving and you shouldn't eat it.
