Tonsils op on NHS vs private

DS (nearly 3) is due to have his tonsils and adenoids removed later this year and is being monitored by a private paediatrician. The problem is that the private health insurance is with DH's job which he has left and Bupa are refusing continuity of care even though we have transferred our policy to new job.

Question is if we have to transfer to NHS, is there likely to be a long waiting list? Ds does 'block-off' at night - will this get him seen any quicker? Also any idea how much will cost privately? Thanks
