Anyone heard of strange reactions to chlorine?

Ds had his first swimming lesson yesterday, he's been swimming before, in that very same pool (although lesson was in the teaching pool not the main pool). Now he loves being in the water, splashing about, done it tons before. But yesterday about halfway through he started screaming and screaming which is really unlike him. At the end of the lesson we all got changed and I didn't really notice anything but he was screaming so I might have been distracted. Anyway, later on I changed his nappy and he had the most horrendous nappy rash. He's never had nappy rash before, not even when he's been teething. It was agony, and despite sudacrem he couldn't even sit down in the bath that evening poor love. He was miserable all day. Could the chlorine have caused a reaction in just one area? He was wearing a swim nappy (which he's worn before) and a neoprene swim nappy on top (they insist on double nappies). Could that have made a difference? Is there anything I can do to stop it happening again?

He must have already had the rash I reckon and the chlorine exacerbated the reaction?

Do you think? I hadn't noticed anything, but like you say, perhaps the chlorine made it worse. Is there anything I can put on to stop it happening again? Something like a barrier cream. Is vaseline good enough or is there something better?

If there is too much chlorine in the school pool then my sons tend to get a rash on their tummies.
