i probably should whisper this, but when i have a really sore throat, i find a mouthfull of alcohol ie, vodka/whiskey swallowed as slowly as possible works a treat.

loopylou6 · 04/09/2008 16:55

of the night time obviously, not when dc are up

SlartyBartFast · 04/09/2008 16:58

Perhaps some anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen might reduce the swelling?

SlartyBartFast · 04/09/2008 17:07

that is an idea, if you can get soluble ibuprofen. or just the hot toddy

Tbh I would see your GP or out of hours service.

I had this about 3 or 4 years ago, it became increasingly painful to swallow over a couple of days. I couldn't eat and only a couple of glasses of wine would dull the pain. I was prescribed diclofenac.

Do you have any other symptoms?

Hope you feel better soon.

SlartyBartFast · 04/09/2008 17:14

thanks mercy, will see how it goes. if i have such a bad night i will consider it tomorrow, however i do have (like a lot of us) an aversion to my GP

I know what you mean.

I just happened to be away for the weekend at dh's aunt's house so I had no choice tbh (and it was a bloody bank holiday)

Hope you get some sleep and let us know how you are tomorrow.

SlartyBartFast · 04/09/2008 19:17

thanks
