What do you take for migraines?

I used to get them years ago but once I stopped the pill they went, however forsome reason theyve started again.

Ive tried migraleve but they dont touch it.

I get the flashing lights 1st and thn a pounding headache which makes me feel sick if I move. The only thing I can do is lay in a dark room and try and sleep it off.

Has anyone taken anything to actually prevent an attack ? or what do you take which helps with the symptoms?

Sumatriptan 50mg on Prescription helps prevent a full attack. First thing that's ever touched my migraines. I wouldn't be without it now.

Thanks I was going to book an appt to see the gp about them. At least I know theres something else I can take.

They are so delibitating(sp) that I dread them and because I dread getting them I spend my life worrying about having an attack. It doesnt help that my work has a strict sickness policy and any more than 3 instances and you get a warning. Im on my 2nd instance already from these migraines. So I want to try and nip them in the bud.

I get Imigran from the doctor - nasal spray. it works really fast and makes a huge difference - I can carry on, rather than going to bed!

I take 1.5mg of Pizotifen every day to prevent migraines. I get them twice a month for 7 days at a time if I don't take the Pizotifen. They have reduced the attacks to maybe once every couple of months, and then if I take Propain Plus (OTC drug) then that seems to work.
My mum had to take Pizotifen as well, and she never had another migraine while on them.

Oh yes, I did try some "wafers" from the GP, but I never got the hang of taking them just as an attack was starting, but a friend of mine swears by them.

Sorry, forgot to say, Pizotifen is prescription only.

Think my prescription is the same as Imigran - it was costing too much to buy it over the counter but it works! My work has a strict sickness policy too - local authority.
I find stress brings mine on mostly, and hormones, and too much chocolate or not enough to eat/being over tired or a combination. I hope it works for you
