Recurrence of glandular fever in children.

I posted something similar last night but not many people about and another thread asking the same question for adults.

So is there anyone out there whose child's glandular fever has come back?

I was 15 when I had GF and was hospitalised for 2weeks. I went back into hospital one month later for another two weeks as it recurred. Didn't see original thread. Does that help?

Hi, thanks. DD is 4 and and hasnt been well on and off for the last couple of months but the last 3 weeks have been awful. She is really lethargic, not eating well, sore throat, bad stomach etc. It was only last night that I put the symptoms together and thought oh no gf maybe back.

I think occurence is common and it takes ages to get over it, about 2 years in fact. Has your DD had a bug in the meantime and that has weakened her to having GF again? Three weeks sounds like a long time. They used to diagnose it only by a blood test. Is that still the case? I will never forget I had the sorest throat ever. And before it was diagnosed the first time, my abdominal muscles hurt so much, I couldn't turn over in bed.

Well I think she has had at least one bug, maybe two, its hard to tell as its peaks and troughs. I am taking her to docs tonight and am afraid it will be a blood test. Shes really run down and i feel awful because I just thought she was picking things up from nursery. It was only yesterday when she asked to come home from the park that alarm bells started ringing.

Hi Lucy5 - I had this a year ago and yes it came back, but only for a short time and much less viciously. I was out of action for around 4 months the first time and not out of action at all the second but felt pretty ropey for a couple of weeks. Someone told me that it can recur for several years, usually around the time you first had it (for me November). I guess it recurs when the first round of winter coughs and colds start attacking.

Oddly I never had a sore throat or noticably swollen glands. It may just be a minor relapse lucy, just give her lots of rest and I bet she will bounce back soon xx

Just wanted to let you know that doc confirmed dd has glandular fever. So here we go again.

I had glandular fever at 16 and even now at 38 still get (mild) recurrances. Any cold is preceeded by glandular fever type down patches.

what is the signs for adults?

horrible tiredness mainly. I could barely put one foot in front of the other

My dd has a certain ammount of energy and when its gone , its gone. She's so grumpy and teary, not that i mind, its just so unlike her. Poor little thing

You could try some alternative therapies, eg reflexology, herbalism, homeopathy?

(she specialises in fatiguey type things - the GF only lasts a week or two and the rest of it is post-viral fatigue like ME)
