I apologise for the Daily Mail link - here but as I know there are people on mn who have been affected by this type of cancer I thought it might be of interest.

Anyone know the difference between cyberknife and gamma knife? From the description of cyberknife I've seen, they seem to be the same thing (but then I'm not remotely technical so am probably missing something).

The GammaKnife is a fixed unit with several hundred radioactive cobalt sources in it. They 'unplug' the ones that the computer plan says are needed to treat the tumour/s, and that's it. Normally the GammaKnife is used only for brain tumours or those in the head.

The CyberKnife is a high energy X-ray device, mounted on a robotic arm that has many degrees of freedom, and so can treat from lots of those. It can be used to treat any part of the body.
