Bleeding behind bottom

When I was just changing my 9 month old son, I noticed a bit of red blood on the wipe. It isn't coming from his anus, but about half a centimetre in the crease behind his anus (the crease that separates the two bottom cheeks). It looks like it has split ever so slightly and a little sore. That makes it sound bad, it isn't, it is only visible when you really look. I will switch to cotton wool and water, but I wondered if anyone had any experience of this? I have put Sudocreme on it.
Thanks

try some nappy off time as well - best thing for any rashes that way!

we also use calendula cream for the ds's nappy rash - bit kinder than sudocrem and deals with all but the nastiest teething rashes
