For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Thanks guys! I'm not sure I need to 'fix it' really. I'm feeling ok. Not nearly as tired as when I was pg with dd (although I was working ft so I suppose it should be easier) I just need to try and make what I do eat as healthy as possible! I'm trying to cram in the fibre as well IYKWIM. I have bran on my museli, brown bread, dried apricots, veg etc. Trying to drink plenty of water too.

Tatties · 17/08/2008 20:57

Franny I have a couple of cotton jersey blankets we had for ds... they are not organic cotton so not as soft, but you are welcome to borrow them if they would be of any use (understand if you just want another apple blanket though!)

FMV, we could probably clothes swap couldn't we? Not sure if I have anything decent though!

pinkspottywellies · 17/08/2008 21:22

we spent the whole of tea-time kissing dd's 'poorly thumb' better because she's bitten her nail right down. I don't know what to do. She chews everything. She's knackered all her cups, books, toys, nails.... it makes me so sad that's hurt herself

Tatties · 17/08/2008 22:23

Aw the poor thing

TooTicky · 17/08/2008 23:02

Ha! Up with ds2 and dd2 already. Well, ds2 has been unwell and dd2 got up in sympathy. Neither of them are tired and dd2 says she could run around and around the cottages until sunlight.
She is also telling bizarre jokes about monsters who eat houses and chips.

SuperBunnyisUnderRated · 18/08/2008 00:45

PSW, DS has bitten his nails quite badly at times too. I couldn't work out what to do. In the end, ignoring it worked best for 3 reasons, I think:

  1. It meant I wasn't focussing on it so it wasn't bothering me as much
  2. He was less stressed because I wasn't constantly nagging
  3. When I ignored it, he forgot about it and did other things

He is much better now - still nibbles every now and then but so did I and I don't mind if it is just a bit. He doesn't put everything in his mouth though. And I think he is older than your DD. And he does suck his thumb. But I don't worry about that.

Hope Toot's children have gone to bed now.

SuperBunnyisUnderRated · 18/08/2008 01:40

Do any of you like Johnny Flynn? I think he was at Latitude. He's playing in chicago and I was wondering if it is worth going to see.

FrannyandZooey · 18/08/2008 09:14

Franny that blanket is gorgeous. I love stripes in bright colours like that. I think you should get it.

Avi things have improved thanks! I think you are right, there is a bit of unlearning to do. I was just a bit impatient really - wanting him to get it straight away, but of course I realised it was bound to take him a little while to get used to a different way of doing things. And each day he has had fewer accidents (none yesterday!) so I am feeling encouraged that he is getting it in his own time. The main things for me are that he finally wants to wear pants now, he is quite happy to wee on the toilet (physically capable of getting on himself and not scared) and he is learning to tell me before he needs to go. Poos still in nappy (always had a bit of a problem with holding it in, so I expected that), but one step at a time...

Raisins, melon

I love that stripey blanket so much. It breaks my heart that such things were just not widely available when ds1 was born. I craved colour and everything was navy or pastel...

I now have a stripey rainbow teapot to join my rainbow mugs of happiness

Today is dark, cold, wet and I feel washed out and the children are bouncing off the walls.

Have eaten some beautiufl hoegrown raspberries and blackberries today and yesterday every single ingredient of our roast dinner (bar the chook) was homegrown Pots, onions, beans, broadbeans, brocooli, carrots, beetroot, leek.

Sadly, the reason for my harvesting fervour had more to do wtht eh fact that plot looks like a paddy field. Is proper flooded so I just picked everything I could lay my hands on before it all rots.

berolina · 18/08/2008 13:11

fmv, am both of cornucopia of home-grown produce* and for you about the flooding. Sadly I am v short so fear my clothes are not swappable, but glad you like them. Most of them are several years older than ds1, but I bought myself a few new bits this year after unwittingly dropping a dress size post-ds2.

Cheering potty news Tatties ds1 is 3.3 and not really anywhere near being ready. I have let it slide not forced it, but have begun to wonder whether I should be encouraging more. He will and does wee on the potty, but not poo. I try to get him to wear pants but he soon asks for his nappy back.

filthymindedvixen · 18/08/2008 13:18

Tatties, if my elderly addled memory is correct, both my boys were on the wrong side of 3 and a half before they were potty trained. However, it is my earnest belief that a) boys are 'slower' than girls
b) The later you leave it, ythe quicker they pick it up and are more reliable than those children whose parents claimed they were trained at 2 .
Several of my friends with girls were still having to cart round many changes of clothes for years after their gifted children were allegedly trained. Whereas once mine had got the hang of it, they were reliably dry within a fortnight.
Hope that is reassuring...

TigerFeet · 18/08/2008 13:43

Hello all, loving the registration stories and affair accusations, photos and hair cuts. I am thinking of getting my hair cut short(er). I have stopped dying it and I have a stripy effect going on. The no dying thing may not continue though. It would appear that I have gone quite grey in the 18 or so years I've been dying my hair

Many, many mangoes have been eaten in the Feet household recently - they were selling them off for 22p each in Lidl so I bought LOTS.

DD was nearly three when she stopped wearing nappies, quite late for a girl from what I understand. It was her idea and it happened virtually overnight. We do train them to wee and poo in nappies don't we? My friend BabiesEverywhere practised Elimination Communication with her dd really successfully - her dd is just about to turn 2 and is so used to weeing in the toilet or on a potty that she thinks nothing of it now. I have been cuddling BE's brand new ds this weekend. He is just fabulous. I want one. Oh dear.

SuperBunny · 18/08/2008 14:18

I want one too

at FMFs homegrown roast

DS sort of potty trained himself so I am not much help, I'm afraid. I'd like to think it was my super parenting that did it but I think it was more luck.

TooTicky · 18/08/2008 17:28

Ooh ooh, look at these gorgeous children in the paper here
They have definitely tarted the photo up though - it was very grey and rainy.

TooTicky · 18/08/2008 17:30
