For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

tatties - I think you have a cartridge pen and you write in proper ink. I also think you spent lots of time labelling and organising boxes, but have still not unpacked them and keep rummaging through them and they are getting more and mroe mixed up.

womblingalong · 15/08/2008 19:56

I have gold sparkly pumps with diamante BBee, you are right,

BUT,

I never wear them, and stick to paint stained birki's instead!

I am possessed of a huge wardrobe of lovely shoes though, although half do not fit since my feet got bigger after having children. I cried for ages when I realised my feet were not going back to pre-preg size after DD, so I could not wear them any more.

Tatties · 15/08/2008 20:00

Bee, organising boxes has not happened yet (if that's what you mean?)

FrayedKnot · 15/08/2008 20:47

Evening

Franny I must admit I was surprised to hear you wanted to go to the gym so soon because I seemed to have zero energy for about 12 months after having DS and even walking down the raod exhausted me, however, if you feel like it it must be very frustrating not to be able to get on and do it properly.

Also, I would be cautious because of the SPD...your pelvis might not be back to normal yet.

We will need to think of alternative ways for you to raise your endorphin levels

OB that sounds ridiculous

I am seething tonight, I just went outside and DH had chucked a load of crappy old soil, stones and roots all over the top of my beautiful seed bed where I planted a new lot of lettuces two days ago.

FGS why did he do it anyway? It's a raised bed with lovely compost in it, and he just tried to ruin it, and I am bl**dy sure he saw me planting the seeds, I did it in the evening and he was about. And anyway, I had told him I was about to plant some more.

And to add insult, he has not properly apologized and is sulking because I screamed and shouted at him.

is an understatement

FrayedKnot · 15/08/2008 21:05

Oh, about the meet up, lots of people are away at the moment aren;t they? Perhaps you should canvass again in a couple of weeks Franny?

And lastly, what shall I do with the 10 courgettes I have in my kitchen? I forgot to tell Veg Box people that I didn;t want any, as we have loads in garden.

Nothing involving cake, though. Am on slef imposed cake ban.

OsmosisBanana · 15/08/2008 22:15

I love your descriptions BBbbeee. I agree with them all. I wish I was at womblings tonight trying on her shoes and drinking champagne.

I am instead sulking about the football season and feeling foolish for trying to run 2 days in a row. I hate running.

Fran - I tried to do a sit up about 2 weeks after DD was born as I thought it a quick free way to tone up.... Laugh?? I nearly did.

And then I wet myself.

You would think working with midwives I might have gleaned an iota of information which I then used. Not a bit of it.

TooTicky · 15/08/2008 22:19

Franny, you spend 9 months building a baby and it takes the same amount of time to return to normal. Please take it easy for several months and don't be hard on yourself.

Lully, how horrid for you. Can you just tell him to sod off and sort out his own dysfunctional family? [hard]

FK, I would be absolutely fuming!!!!! Is it salvageable?

OB, I hate that kind of thing. Big companies think they can get away with anything, don't they?
And what was it you said earlier that made me think you had interesting news to impart? Hmm?

Tatties, lovely to see you Good luck with the potty stuff. My dcs have varied enormously in this - will happily bore you with the details

TooTicky · 15/08/2008 22:21

FK, make lots of ratatouille and freeze it. Such a useful thing to have about.
Bero makes a courgette pasta sauce - I can't remember the details, but you could ask her when she gets back.

Boco · 15/08/2008 22:21

Lully thanks for the Sylvanians the girls will love them.

Franny, aren't you still all bendy that soon after the birth? I'm sure you're supposed to stay lying down for about 3 months, eating cake and stuff. Not going to the gym. That aint natrul.

Going to Liverpool early in the morning - well Chester first, to wedding. So have a nice weekend you veggers.

TooTicky · 15/08/2008 22:21

I also put them in sandwiches like cucumbers.

TooTicky · 15/08/2008 22:22

Have a nice time Boco

Boco · 15/08/2008 22:22

FK very bad bad MrKnot. Why would he do such a thing?

OsmosisBanana · 15/08/2008 22:22

OOOoohh. Tatties. Are you potty training? I have been umming and ahhing for a bit now but i think I missed a moment when she kept telling me what she was doing...

21months is young though isn't it?

Haveemailed you TooTshooT

TooTicky · 15/08/2008 22:27

Ds1 and dd2 were both younger than that when they self-trained. Ds1 asked for a potty for Christmas when he was 18mo. And got one
Dd1 was later though. And ds2 had a massive pants-pooing phase. So I'm not smug or owt.

OsmosisBanana · 15/08/2008 22:35

tis definitely sent.

I am going to pick a fight with DH. Cos I can. And cos it's the only way I can think of getting out of bedrooma ctivitiies

OsmosisBanana · 15/08/2008 22:39

Shucks.busted. off to bed I guess.

FrayedKnot · 15/08/2008 22:41

I think that DH was just not thinking what he was doing tbh. I don;t mean he did it maliciously! But I'm still waiting for a proper apology.

I cleared it all off but as you can imagine I took some of the lovely compost up as well. I could see some little tiny sprouty bits so I just gently raked the soil back over them as best I could.

I don;t think he realizes how emotionally attached I am to my veggies.

Have a great time at the wedding, Boco.

TooTicky · 15/08/2008 22:43

Emotional attachment. Yes, me too. Hope they survive!!

Tatties · 15/08/2008 23:19

Hey TooT

I am not really potty training... well I want him to do it himself! He will happily wee on the toilet, he can tell me sometimes when he needs to. He's just not consistently reliable, and not bothered enough not to wet himself, iyswim. I knew we would be late with this as even as a baby he never cried to have his nappy changed. I don't know whether I can/should be doing more.

FK hope your seedlings are ok!

SuperBunnyisUnderRated · 15/08/2008 23:40

Oh no, FK. I'd be cross too. Why hasn't he been out and removed the rocks and soil? I get attached to my veggies too.

Courgettes:

Stuff 'em
Ratatouille
Veggie bake
Roast 'em
Ratatouille
Curry
Peel into ribbons and serve with spaghetti
Lemon courgette risotto
Ratatouille

Have a lovely weekend all

SuperBunnyisUnderRated · 15/08/2008 23:49

I think DS was sort of bullied today. I can't decide if it is me being overprotective or if the other children were just mean. They were chasing him over and over again, but not in a nice way. He thought they were playing but didn't want to keep running but didn't want to tell them that and did want to play with them. They were a bit older and although they didn't do anything terrible they were sort of ganging up on him and didn't let him stop when his shoes came off or when he fell.

Why can I smell yeast? Only if I sit in one chair. And not all the time. It's not me and I've done a search and can't smell it when I look. Can one imagine a weird smell? Am I losing my mind?

ahundredtimes · 15/08/2008 23:59

I've read most of this and I can't remember very much as it is late, and I am a bit tired. Also we went shoe shopping this afternoon, and that's not a good thing to do. It is expensive and hot. DS1 seems to have gone up about three sizes some how, dd was a pita and enjoyed herself a little too much imo. DS2 lay on the floor quite a lot.

Anywaay. Fra stop it with the whole gym thing, do a little light walking. oooh which reminds me, JJ and I met an ex porn actor on a hill the other day. He was a bit odd and plastic looking, and kept going on about how they were microchipping babies in LA or something, and he was wearing yellow trousers and a baseball cap and wanted to tell me all about corrupt casting couches, and I didn't want to hear, so I became very ASSERTIVE and talked confidently about my children's PE kits for some reason I now can't remember. Anyway, JJ kept playing with his dog and I kept tying to walk away, but after the PE kits he fell into a mystified silence, so that showed him.

BBee your days sound lovely. I tried to get ds1 to do their away camp thing, for two weeks, with a friend of his from London. He was v. sceptical and when they didn't get a place he was pleased.

What else? If I say 'wombling' will she appear? That'd be good.

Hope Boco enjoys her wedding and trip.

FK - yes, most irritating. Why doesn't he apologize.

Lully - trying to think of something to recommend. You remember my friend with lymphodema - the one who went to Swiss clinic? She went to see someone in Oxford about her skin. Shall I find out what best? If it's related - sorry if it's not.

Oh dear, I can't remember anything else. I can't remember potty training, but I'm sure you are doing it v. well Tatties.

Good. Excellent.

SuperBunnyisUnderRated · 16/08/2008 02:36

Hello ahundred

Who can tell me about nuts? I just made Almond Butter and am on a nut-butter making mission - what is most nutritious & least fatty (spare tyre problem continues - should have gone for a run instead of making peanut butter type things)?
