Fruity is in the pie of the beholder - 10 / 10 thread

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I don't believe you were that bad. 18 is very young to shoulder someone elses responsibilities. At the risk of sounding like a right cnut.

TigerFeet · 12/08/2008 15:03

I agree. I couldn't sort myself out at 18 never mind think about someone else's children.

OsmosisBanana · 12/08/2008 15:07

I still catch myself thinking slightly un-parental thoughts towards SD now. Then I stop and realise it's not her I am feeling unhappy with, it's her parents. And then I go and buy sweets

I had an ace compliment the other day - makes the hard parts all worth while.

She was talking about how embarrassing her Dad was (yeah right, he's a DJ / tree surgeon / general dude) and I said 'ah, all parents / grown ups are embarrassing when they are yours'

She said 'you're not, you're not like a normal grownup'

LOL! Sure that was meant a compliment.

TooTicky · 12/08/2008 15:11

OB, you are cool! (how old is sd?)

OsmosisBanana · 12/08/2008 15:15

I'm not really. And her parents are cooler than me, she just doesn't know it!! But they are both 9 years older than me which prob accounts for summat.

She was 9 in May.

OsmosisBanana · 12/08/2008 15:16

OMG! Are we having a discussion about 'cool'???

Let's stop that right now!

Did you go to Balloon thing?

littlerach · 12/08/2008 15:17

I am a stepmum too.

Dh's other 2 live in Devon and he visits them every other weekend. They are teenagers now, and don't like coming to stay as they get bored!

Couldn't have done it at 18 mind, hard enough now.

OB, may well take you up on the party offer, but will have to check lots of things, as that is another birthday season here, including my sister's 30th. Plus the ILs may be cominfg over . And they haven't seen us for years so will have to Make an Effort. LOL.

We have had thunder and lightening.
And hail
Roll on Friday...

Stuffed courgettes (100th time htis week) and cpuscous with tomatoes and mushrooms.

Am suffering with mild stress, and thus poorly tummy.

littlerach · 12/08/2008 15:18

My friend went to balloon thing and her dh had arranged for her to have balloon trip also.
But when it landed it tipped, and bounced and she is rather bruised but luckily found it very funny.

TooTicky · 12/08/2008 15:21

Impressing a 9yo is pretty good!

No, we didn't make the balloons in the end. I didn't think of it until Sunday and the weather looked iffy. Did you?
I used to get a great view when I was little, living in Totterdown with amazing views over the city. I never actually went to the fiesta.

OsmosisBanana · 12/08/2008 15:22

someone in my office told me a nice recipe for courgettes just in case you haven't tried it...

Dredge slices in beaten egg and then very well seasoned flour, then fry in OO and a little butter.

Feeling your pain there though, I have nearly used up half the carrots in the shed, soup, curry etc etc, no more room in freezer and am actually going yellow.

Have you tried grating courgette and adding it to cakes to make them more moist? Particularly good in choc cake as you can't see it.

Or get a T bar peeler, finely peel the courgette, and use in a salad with finely chopped chilli, lemon, w w vinegar and a little mustard.

Or same again, but just bung in a frying pan with a little OO, fry for a few seconds and serve with any white fish fillet on top.

Have I missed the boat in giving out courgette advice?!

OsmosisBanana · 12/08/2008 15:24

Didn't go to Balloons, 2xweddings. Still a bit grotty today.

Bad luck on stressy tummy LR. I hate that.

littlerach · 12/08/2008 15:24

Thanks OB, will try the fried one tomorrow.

Soemone else said about cake, but I'm not convinced....

Added them to salad last week!

TooTicky · 12/08/2008 15:25

Sorry you are stressed LittleRach.
We had thunder and lightning too, now blue skies and sunshine.

Balloon ride sounds scary!!

TigerFeet · 12/08/2008 15:34

I have had courgette chocolate cake - it was really nice! I don't have a recipe though I'm afraid, but it was made my an MNer so if I get chance later I'll see if she posted it anywhere. She didn't bother peeling hers so there were green flecks in the cake but apparently if you peel them you wouldn't know they were there

OsmosisBanana · 12/08/2008 15:40

you literally just bung it with the rest of the ingredients. Give it a bit of a squueze though as might be a bit too moist. You can't taste it.

ARGH! I hate the word moist.

Grated beetroot has the same effect.

stuffitllama · 12/08/2008 18:17

hello all
tragically for me this has to be a post and run but would like to say a very big congratulations to you Franny -- what wonderful news.. so glad everything worked out at home.. marvellous you

how is everything now? I've hardly had time to read, but just had to trawl and find your news

and everyone else? I do hope things are going well for the fruiters

we are arrived and in a virtually empty house with a very slow dodgy internet connection with a surge protector due to power supply unpredictability

the children have started school, and things seem to be alright, and I'm trying not to micromanage but it's awfully hard.
dh starts work tomorrow after 50 million miles of admin to do with banks, phones, shipment, yada yada

I think our stuff arrives in a week or so ..am missing Europe, friends and family but bracing self. here's the interesting bit for 10/10: in the garden are coconut palms, banana trees, mango trees and an avenue AN AVENUE of limes -- flippety do dah

When the shipment comes I'm going to settle down with my Apple and a lime soda in the middle of a lot of boxes and catch up with what you've all been doing

till then limey kisses and spicy hugs from here and best wishes to all, dear fruity bints x

TigerFeet · 12/08/2008 18:31
