Fruity is in the pie of the beholder - 10 / 10 thread

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

that sounds revolting. the yeast not the meet up.

i had a lot more yesterday but didn't post it. i've got purple beans, they go green when cooked but are lovely raw too. none of my other veg is cropping at all and it keeps having accidents - small garden small boy.

SuperBunnyisUnderRated · 11/08/2008 22:38

I agree, the yeast doesn't sound all that appetising but I was hoping it would taste ok and would mean I could make cheesey type things (for DS) without all the cheese. And revolting is subjective - marmite sounds a bit unappealing yet is quite yummy imo.

TooTicky · 11/08/2008 22:38

Nutritional yeast, yes. Engevita. Sprinkle it on things. Every so often I remember it exists and buy some.

You have all talked a lot today.

TooTicky · 11/08/2008 22:39

UR, would you like to borrow my Uncheese Cookbook?

SuperBunnyisUnderRated · 11/08/2008 22:41

Toot - you'll be proud of us. We just made the best cupcakes ever and they're vegan

SuperBunnyisUnderRated · 11/08/2008 22:45

I'll see if they have it in the library, Toot and will let you know. Thanks for the offer. I am currently reading Vegan with a vengeance and it's fab.

TooTicky · 11/08/2008 22:47

Hurrah!!!

TooTicky · 11/08/2008 22:50

That looks like a good book!!
I have quite a lot of books but lack the energy to try new things sometimes. Also tend to play safe and make what I know they will eat. Gets boring though. Dd1 is a good influence, getting more adventurous and wanting to cook

SuperBunnyisUnderRated · 11/08/2008 22:52

I think a DD who wants to cook is a great thing. I love cookbooks and read them in bed. I am making a list of things I want to cook but a, not yet ready to try Seitan so am sticking with the bean-based things that DS is bound to like. He loves beans. And is learning to like Tofu - he calls it 'like-chicken' because I once told him it is a bit like chicken

SuperBunnyisUnderRated · 11/08/2008 22:54

a, = am (crap typing)

SuperBunnyisUnderRated · 11/08/2008 23:01

Is this the uncheese one?

TooTicky · 11/08/2008 23:03

Yes yes, that's it!

Wish my dcs would eat beans

TooTicky · 11/08/2008 23:06

There are some lovely ones by Linda Majzlik, A Vegan Taste of.... (various countries). Well worth looking out for.
Also, a slim volume called The Cake Scoffer, produced by Animal Aid. V. reasonably priced, as are the Meals Without Squeals produced by the Isle of Wight vegans. Let me know if you'd like me to send you anything

SuperBunnyisUnderRated · 12/08/2008 03:54

Ooo, thanks Toot. Will file the names away and get to them when I've finished this batch. I spent all evening at work typing up recipes and am strangely excited about my new recipes. It doesn't take much to please me!

Went to gym - ran, weights & yoga streches/ physio. Yay.

Juice
Smoothie (I don't think I can really count it if I already counted juice but I'm desperate)
Green sauce on gnocchi + raspberries = 1
peas
grapes (2)

6, by cheating

FrannyandZooey · 12/08/2008 08:09

nobody has emailed me about the meet up except Avi, who isn't even here
we'll have a wild time I am sure

blueberries, strawberries, melon, raisins

UR I don't think that is cheating (although am dubious about green sauce) and you did exercise
Pink give her a sticker

ds2 has sore bot
caused no doubt by my appalling lazy night time parenting (ie get as many of family as possible into bed, don't get up again or move until absolutely forced to)
new regime of changing nappy after every night time feed is meant to alleviate it
however is just ruddy disaster
usually routine goes: ds2 whimpers, I feed, we sleep
now is: ds2 whimpers, I feed, I change nappy, ds2 wakes up completely, doesn't go back to sleep, I feed again, ds2 is sick on self and bed (as too full), I change, ds2 really wide awake and either wanting to play or grumpy, I rock and cuddle, ds2 sick on me, I fall asleep with milk in my hair, holding ds2, he whimpers, I feed, and totally fail to wake up to change his nappy

am crap parent. Why doesn't being crap parent work beautifully? Sometimes it does. It should all the time.

hello lovely ones
feels like ages since I've managed to post
combination of ds's birthday, party, illness & trip to Cornwall which was the wettest, soggiest, windiest trip ever.

Ds is glum & pushing the limits...loved having a garden, beach within walking distance,dh around more etc
He has fallen back down to earth with a hard bump

What news of everyone?

Toot, you should have post this morning .Whilst unpacking dh's clothes I found your card with money for t shirt in his jacket pocket...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
So sorry..he swears he posted it..Ds absolutely loved the t shirt tho & wore it to his party,so thankyou so much & dp too

LullyOfShallot · 12/08/2008 09:12

weleda nappy cream is fab Franny
about the only thing I found to work for ds & his poor bottom after weeks of green nappies.
How are you all doing?

OsmosisBanana · 12/08/2008 10:26

Meet up- Can't really do the w/e of the 15th Nov as that is DD's 2nd birfday. She might object. Any other date is fine. Sunday also fine. I shall wear my scummy skiving student badge with pride.

As it is so close to Guy Fawkes I am going to buy a load of fireworks at vastly reduced prices, do a bonfire in the allotment at the back of our house and a BBQ on what will hopefully be our newly built raised decking (yeah right) with lots of sausages veggie kebabs.

Anyone in the areal at the time welcome.

Home made naan v easy.

You can go the whole hog and use yeast and leave em overnight in fridge or you can bodge job with SR flour, nat yog, cumin, water, pepper and some other stuff I forget and just fry them in a tiny bit of OO and butter. Sometimes they come out a bit funny, like a nasty scone, mostly very good though.

TigerFeet · 12/08/2008 10:30

Poor ds2 Franny, could you compensate for having fewer nappy changes at night by having lots of nappy off time during the day?

Hello Lully, hope you managed to have a good time despite the foul weather. The comedown from holidays can be fierce at times can't it?

Is that yeast stuff the same thing they use to make marmite? [thick]

The weather is grim today

Boco · 12/08/2008 10:41

It just rained and rained, very hard, and now my house has flooded. Well, only the utility room, but all the shoes are floating.

Strawberries, raspberries.

TigerFeet · 12/08/2008 10:55

Boco - is it likely to get any worse?

Boco · 12/08/2008 11:07

Hopefully not, it's stopped raining and the sun is out. Am ignoring the floating shoes for just a little bit longer.

TigerFeet · 12/08/2008 11:09

You could put lego people in them and pretend they are boats

[helpful]

OsmosisBanana · 12/08/2008 11:09

I am getting v fed up of being a step mother atm. Why is it that I have to get SD up / dressed / fed / driven back to her mothers by 7:30 so I can get to work on time? Surely organising myself and a toddler is enough??

That is no criticism of her, just her SHIT parents. One of whom I now happen to be married to.

Why also do I not get told when she is coming to stay until after I have done the shopping? She is veggie and very fussy.

ARRARRARARARRRRRHGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in case you couldn't tell.
