does anyone have any ideas when your swallowing comes back after a stroke my dad had one 9 weeks ago and still no swallowing

reilovesbacardi, i'm so sorry this has happened to your dad. strokes are really crappy to put it mildly and there are so many unknowns.

everybody who suffers a stroke will vary in the amount of damage caused to the brain. this also means recovery varies hugely from person to person.

i think the only person who can give you an idea would need to be somebody with access to all your dad's medical notes ie. which areas of the brain have been affected.
does your dad have a consultant you feel you could discuss it with?

that's good advice by dragonbutter: strokes do vary so much in their outcome, so do try and talk to a specialist who has seen all his notes!

my grandfather had a (severe) stroke in his early 60-s. in his case it affected his mobility (he was in wheelchair and he lost control over his right hand) and his speech. one of my mum's friends had a stroke and thought it had just been a blackout, but never suffered from any symptoms afterwards.

i so hope that your dad will turn out to be of the second category i described here, and hope for a full recovery! and i wish you all the strength in the meantime.

hi thanks i know everyone is dif but just wondered if anyone had any exsperience of someone not swallowing for so long and then it came back my dad is getting really down about it, i just want to tell him about a happy ever after story so he does'nt give up
