First wobbly tooth at 4?!

Is this quite normal? dd is not 5 until Jan but yet i have notice this morn that one of her teeth is wobbly.

Not unheard of - one of DS1's friends (also a girl) had lost several teeth by the time she started Reception - ie, well before her fifth birthday. (Mind you, DP is convinced that she's a year older than everyone else in the class - she's a good foot taller than all the other kids!)

Thanks PW, just can't believe it as she seems quite young to be losing her teeth to me, shes ok with it was a little hysterical at first though

I think it is a bit young, but not worryingly so! DS is 5 and a half and no sign of any wobblies yet.

All 3 of mine lost the first 2 bottom teeth by the time they were five..

Need some more advice please, this tooth is now hanging on by a thread, can almost go upside down and completely on its side, and my dd is hysterical about it, is it quite normal for them to freak out soooooo much? she won't let me touch it and is refusing to eat because of it too. Grrrrrr!

dd had lost 4 bottom teeth by the end of reception and so had others in her class.

Some children in her year 2 class are only just losing their first, so variation is obviously normal.

Try to make a huge deal about the tooth fairy, I bought a book with a little velvet purse to put the tooth under the pillow in, and the prospect of a magical fairy was enough to prevent the hysterics. Tell her the tooth fairy is watching and waiting for it to fall out.

DS was just five when he started to lose baby teeth. I think it seems to be happening earlier than when I was a kid! I think some kids do freak out this much pucca, maybe being this young doesn't help. I think you will just have to let her get it out of her own accord; nothing worse IMO than having teeth meddled with - my SIL bangs on at her poor dd to get her teeth out or SIL will come and do it for her. It's her teeth! It's one of those things to be done by the child IMO. Once it's happened once, she will know it's not too bad. Keep tissues on you at ALL times to wipe any blood - ds was very worried by his first tooth, which did bleed when it came out.

I suppose it doesn't help that the one thing that turns my stomach is teeth hanging out (of course i don't show it to dd) feel quite exhausted with it all lol, it is just hanging on by a tiny tiny bit, like i said it is literally hanging upside down and has already left the gum apart from one small bit at the front.

Does it take a while for the new tooth to show? as i am sure i can see it underneath.

The thing is it has already bled too, as it has left the socket, god its awful but funnily enough i cannot remember losing mine at all.

Most of dd's big teeth were visible when her milk teeth fell out.

That must mean the tooth is being pushed out by an adult one and is ready to come out, rather than being knocked or bumped before it is ready.

DD1 lost her first tooth whilst in nursery and has lost a total of about 11 now at age 7. And yes I yanked one out (at her request!) that was hanging on a thread. DD2 however just about to go into Yr1 with all her baby teeth intact!

DD lost her first tooth at 8, but she seems to do everything later than anyone else!
DS is 6 and is over the moon that he has 2 wobbly teeth.

I remember the back ones falling out when I was about 9 or 10, and spending days twisting and turning them with my tongue before they eventually came free.

Generally they lose the 8 front teeth quite close together, and then the back ones a few years later at between 9 and 11.

Dd's adult teeth were very different in appearance, much larger and not as white They took a while to get used to.

I'm sue ds lost his first tooth at 4. He's now lost the whole set of "front baby teeth" and has an excellent set of grown up teeth att hefront, age 7. The dentist is very pleased andsays we will now have a gap of a few years until the back teeth start falling out.

I was woken by dd in my room at 6.30 with tooth in her hand, it came out in her sleep last night, hurrah! and the new tooth is very clearly there already.

You're lucky you found it - ds must have swallowed his. We had to write a special letter tot he tooth fairy, explaining, so she wrote back and said she had looked very very hard and found it, so here was the £1 in return

I lost my first tooth at 4- the week before I was due to be the bridesmaid at a wedding. My mum had been coaching me how to 'smile nicely' and show my teeth. She had to promptly uncoach me.
