Hip Dysplasia

My DD (nearly 12mths) has just had a check with the HV who has told me to get her checked with GP for poss Hip Dysplasia. This is because she is not crawling and does not support her weight on her legs ("stand") when held up. She also has slightly asymmetrical creases on her hips. I have looked on the net but just wondered if anyone out there knows anything about this. I am so worried - the HV said it is unlikely it is HD but it is likely I will have to take her for an x ray or scan and I am in a bit of a state about it. Obviously I will have her checked.

you should be refered v. quickly for this. it is 'fixable'. i was diagnosed with this around 15 months.

i suspect hv is being overly vigilant so TRY not to worry.

good luck.

Hi, try not to worry too much, my dd1 had this at birth and its easily treatable. My dd1 had double nappies and then a Pavlic Harness in the end to sort her out, which admittedly wasn't very nice at the time, but within three months had sorted her out and all was good

A lot of the stuff you see on the net is worst case scenario, I found this site really helpful at the time www.hip-baby.org/index.html

Try not to worry, the Dr will check her out, just to be safe and sure, it may well be that she's a late walker, I know twins who didn't walk until aged 3 they bum shuffled everywhere much to their mothers annoyance

Shout me if I can help though.

Thanks to Frizbe and ThePettyand Illinformedgoat. I am worried because if she has it she is already 12 mths - will take longer to correct. I have looked on the website - hip-baby - the histories have basically scared the life out of me! It's more the fact that she won't put any weight on her legs that bothers me. Iguess I just get her checked asap.....

Hi Nellie. I know this is an old thread, but exactly the same thing has just happened to me at my daughter's 12 month check up. I've googled it and I'm worrying myself silly. What happened to your little girl?
