ds 14 months since sunday not well temp at times 103, thought getting better but today only taken 4oz milk, sleeping a alot, no rash, going to check on him now - can i rule out menigitis as presumably it would have come on by now as ds ill since sunday - temp responds to calpol etc and he is worse afternoons and evenings worried about lack of fluid - do you think he needs to see gp?

If you are still worried and decide to go to A&E, just explain that your son has got worse since the doctor came out to see him. I've done that with dd1, I wasn't happy with the doctors attitude so I took her straight to casualty.

if you really are concerned then go to A& E - don't worry about ' making a nuisance of yourself' or any such thing - my dd had a really high temp of 42 when she was a few months old and I freaked out and called an ambulance!! it turned out she had a strong but not so terrible virus , but the Docs were nice and said I had done the right thing. In the end all she needed was calpol and lots of tlc but you never know.I would go to the hospital as a safety measure.

doc says looks like influenza, babe is asleep again now, he did not take his temp just listened to his chest,
bit worried re his cold hands and feet and cannot remember if he is usually like this, if he has a high temp again tonight think will take him to a and e

he is responding but not on top form ifykwim, sobs and appears weak, but he was half heartedly flirting in the surgery and tottering around in the doctor's room
he has had a rashy spot on his face for last week or so, doctor asked about it, but it does not look like a m rash like a huge mosquito bite
bit blotchy doctor
before we left he drank a bottle of milk which was a relief as only had 4oz milk today
thanks for the advice i really appreciate it, he is asleep now
doctor said flu and he is coughing isnt he, i said no but then doctor not bothered
yes will go to a and e later if his temp goes up, should i give him calpol or take him with temp so that hosp can see how high fever is, will giving calpol hinder diagnosis? f

god sorry that does not make sense,... no you have not worried me re cold hands and feet as pre posting was reading re m symptoms and that was the only one ds had so in a way it is useful to know that this symtom on its own could be significant

Think cold hands and feet can be a sign of dehydration although not necessarily a worry on its own. If it is viral then symptomatic treatment (ie calpol and fluids) is ok but if it continues or he can't take the fluids get another opinion. If he has an infection then Calpol won't mask any other symptoms and they could do a blood test to check if it is otherwise unclear.

Hope he improves soon.

thanks LIZS, thanks also for the madeira cake recipie it was great for his birthday (changed my sign in),
he only took about 15oz of fluid today and no food, very tearie eyes and red rings underneath, will check him in an hour
really appreciate all of your advice will let you know how he gets on
