Is it OK to give a 3 year old Medised and Tixylix night-time together ?

They both have the same amount of Promethazine Hydrochloride in but I don't know what that is.

Dd is struggling with a cold & really bad cough (as always since bronciolitis when tiny), her temp is high, hence Medised but she is coughing her heart out too.

Advice please !

Not a good idea, as this could give your child too much of the promethazide Hydrochloride. It is a sedating antihistamine, that is, it helps you to sleep and reduces 'hay' fever like symptoms. i don't know the maximum recomended dose for children , but I would err on the side of safety. Do you have Calpol? This will help reduce the fever, and doesn't have an antihistamine. But don't give it if you are using other paracetamol products.

Medised has paracetamol in it so calpol is a no-no, I just didn't know what the other active ingredient was - thanks !

Buttercup syrup is for coughs and has no paracetamol. You can also give paracetamol and Nurofen baby together as Nurofen has no paracetamol in it and is very effective against fever and pain.

If you still have the same problem tonight, I would give the tixylix, which will help reduce the cough and have a mild sedative effect which will help Dd to sleep. If there is no paracetamol in the tixylix, give Dd some calpol, which will help reduce the discomfort, and bring down the temp. Medised is calpol + the sedative antihistamine. Your dd will already be getting that in the tixylix IYSWIM. Follow all the other non medicine adive given, and raising the head of the bed can also help mucus to 'drain'. HTH
