dd1 has a leaky valv in her heart. i have known this for 18months and tbh i have never really looked into it. just read thr leaflet given at the time, and she has a follow up appointment when she is 10, so still 18months away.

but i googled it earlier.

yes the majority of patients live lives normally etc etc, which is great.

but also read it can lead to further problems like dh had.

which scares the shite out of me.

ahhh misdee, remember it's far far far more likely that she won't have any problem. Stop googling, no point worrying about problems that don't exist.

You can't worry for the next 18 months, so stop looking! You can always find worse case scenarios on google.

I was googling yesterday to explain to dd what a nun is, when trying to explain the difference between nun and none. I had to switch the page sharpish when the image results came up.

Last summer I googled blood in urine as thats what I'd passed. The google stuff was dire.

I sat up half the night in my childrens bedroom breaking my heart that I wouldn't see them start school or grow up

Next morning more red wee. I cried down the phone to NHS direct as they went through their list of questions to determine who to put my call through to.

FJ, lol! thats terribly funny.

the things i was googling (mitral valve leak) was coming up o na kids website. so i thought i;d check that as dd1 has been aksing about it. i wont be showing it to her.

actually would you let an 8year old read this? she has already had the tests done. and isnt medicated.

If she's been asking maybe you should let her see it? It may worry her more if she feels there's something you're not telling her. The tone of article is pretty up-beat. Do you think she would make any link to your dh's problems? And whilst in no way belittling the dreadful journey you had to get there, your dh is much better so the example she has seen up close had a happy ending....

Tell her not to pronounce the words as they suggest though!

she is a little worrier. tbh she was dx at the height of dh illness (he was on the LVAD still at that point), so it wasnt really at the front of our concerns. We just told her it was a small leak, and that the doctor will check on it as she grows but shouldnt be a problem at all. she doesnt talk about it much, but she does ask sometimes about it.

Imagining myself as an 8yo, (not easy twas long time ago!) I think if I was worried and had asked questions and then my mum sat me down and went through that article it would put my mind at rest. Presumably the article is written precisely for this purpose.

If she wasn't asking questions I wouldn't make a bigger deal of it, until she did ask.
