I took it back after I recovered and had a letter from them today saying they are sorry for my illness but it wasn't caused by their product as they hadn't had any other complaints (like they would tell me!).

Also got £20 in vouchers. Wondered if anyone else has had similiar experiences.

just wondering how you know for sure 100% it was that dip?

Hope you feel btw .... food poisoning is NOT nice

If you are absolutely sure then speak to Environmental Health. Did you keep a copy of the packaging? They would need it to trace the day it was made. Then the EHO would get sample results from the factory for that day. All food produced is subject to sampling for bacteria (ecoli, listeria etc). The reslults are kept so that they can defend themselves. If they find any then the products are/should be withdrawn.

You are doing well to get the £20, tbh. No supermarket will admit liability unless conclusively proven. You cannot prove the liability unless you have lots of lab work done on all the stuff you would rather flush away. Oh and they like droves of people throwing up before they'll say it had anything to do with them.

Similar experience with Sainsbury's. Very sure it was their product. With food poisoning, you can just taste the offending thing, can't you? Sainsbury's were mean though. No vouchers at all. Just an offer of some replacement product.

Which, let's face it, was not exactly welcome at the time.

What did you dip into the dip?

poshtottie · 08/07/2008 19:04

nannyL, well I soppose it is poscsible that it wasn't the dip but all I had eaten up to that point was toast for breakfast, I then had the dip with pita bread around 2pm, then felt ill approx 4 hours later. Went to bed and began throwing up for the next few hours until there was nothing left. DH and ds were both fine thankfully as I am the only one who ate it.

cmoc, no I didn't keep anything, just took it back to the shop. They had cleared the shelves though. Will remember that though for next time. (hopefully won't be a next time)

Funny enough it didn't taste as nice as it usually does and it didn't have the seal on that in previous times it always has.

Quattro, I agree, it has put me off for life.

ok.... sounds pretty liekly that it was that dip then

alibubbles · 09/07/2008 09:38

Was it the humous? I had it too, but they said that no one else was ill. They did recall it, about a couple of weeks ago?

poshtottie · 09/07/2008 11:48

alibubbles, no it wasn't humous but tzatziki
