hernia, heart problem , anxiety, what the hells my prob and should i go back to the doc ? please help

went to the doc a while ago with horrible tight feelin in chest and some on / off pains

because i also said i suffer palpitations sometimes i think she referred me to cardiology.

i have also always for years suffered alot of indigestion (in the guise of wind and a pain right in the middle after eating)

anyway , my appointment isn't for another month (and i was lucky to get that) .

thing is, i now keep getting indigestion/ stomache ache alot and also have this horrid feeling of something being stuck in my throat.

so, do i wait for the cardiologist to rule out heart problem and then go back to gp or do i go back to gp and also get referred possibly somewhere else ?

please help, i am so fed up and i am losing weight because i'm not eating like i normally do .

Very sensible to get things checked out from a heart point of view but there are a few other possibly causes. Of these a few could be problematic but most are easily treated

Your GP is the person best placed to solve the mystery and will probably have a few tricks up her sleeve yet

on the contrary there are a few others things to check and try. For example, she may suggest you try a course of medication to reduce the acid in your stomach while you are waiting for your cardiology appointment, or she might want to check for a bacteria in your stomach that can make ulcers etc more likely..... The advantage of your GP is you can tell her the full story and she can examine you if neccesary while keeping the full picture in mind. Specialists are great but you need a GP to narrow things down to the right area first - the human body doesn't like to make things too easy for us

this lump in throat feelin is really bothering me now, keep getting sharp pain in it too

gallstones can cause all the symptoms you described apart from lump in throat, the lump in throat is VERY common sign of anxiety. I know these things, ive had both . Gallstone pain is often mistaken for heart attack, in fact i was rushed to hospital with chest pains and inability to catch my breath - seint home with a prescription for gaviscon . The lump in throat might also be due to acid reflux.

Anxiety can cause, among other things:-

Indegestion
Lump in throat feeling
head aches
tingling and numbness
sweating
palpitations
joint pains
urinary and bowel problems
nausea
chest pains
low immunity
High BP
Can't think of anything else off the top of my head but there are loads - i too was stunned.

If you had said to me a year ago that all these things could be caused by anxiety i would have laughed - but now i know, because i have every t shirt. The more symptoms i got, the more i convinced myself i was dying. The more anxious i got etc

Ive been reffered to breast clinic, had ultrasound scans, 24 heart traces all based on anxiety based problems. It aint funny, but once you realise it does make it easier.

FWIW,my doctor has suggested 3 possible causes for my symptoms- hernia,stomach ulcers and gallstones. I am currently taking Lanzaprozole and Buscopan for the acid aswell as Codiene for the chest pain.I have to wait a month to see how I go on these,then doc will refer me for abdo scan and/or endoscopy

well cheery, i did have gallstones, they were easy to fix just whipped the bugger out. but i do suffer from severe health and general anxiety. I am on medication for this and it does help. Maybe go back to your doctors and tell him you are worried.

try to cut fat out of your diet as much as you possibly can, this helped to calm down my gallstones alot.

I would honestly go back, it really does sound like anxiety on re reading your OP. Indegestion can be bloody painful too and can cause that lump in throat feeling.

Did they not do an ecg in the health centre and suggest a 24hr ecg, all of this can be done before the cardiologist see's you. I had this when i was having palpitations, mine was actually down to some steroidal hayfever medication i was taking (found that out later). Palpitations are such a common thing, they feel horrible don't they.

I only get them now following a panic attack, or if i take night nurse

have taken zantac as that was all i could find. but i have to walk to school for ds in an hour....help

I went to doctors yesterday in agony too,he has reffered me for an urgent scan(4-6 weeks wait in our area!!)and said that he'd have thought the pills i've been taking would've made a difference by now if it were ulcers so he is now fairly sure its gallstones.I lost a lot of weight lately doing the Cambridge diet which can be a trigger for gallstones.

well at least they are doing something for you ash, although 4 -6 weeks is still quite a wait isn't it.

i got up this morning with horrible tight chest feeling which has eased off a lot now, funny it seems to be worse in the mornings.

have managed to eat without any stomach pain today too, just had little bits here and there.

have a bit of a feelin of something in throat but not as bad as it has been.

cheery? How are you today? honestly, what you describe really sounds like it could be gallstones as it was horrid for me after a meal. Apparently drinking lots of water helps, also during an attack walking around - i used to find my DP had to massage my back - it is AGONY - far worse than chilbirth. Paracetemol and codeine you can take, as well as ibruprofen. I used to live on this cocktail and i was devestated becasue i felt i could no longer breast feed whilst swallowing so many pills, but i literally used to collapse in pain. Glad i got rid of that useless little organ

You sound like my mother cheeryface, particularly the lump in the throat and the pain after eating and she was eventually diagnosed with a hernia. Can't remember what type now unfortunately but it is apparently uncommon to have surgery and they try to manage it by antacids and diet. Hers is mostly under control now but she doesn't eat spicy foods, drink orange juice or much tea and a few other things. It can be quite restrictive.

However, the lump in the throat really worried her and she thought she had throat cancer or something so she was actually quite relieved when she found out what it was. She was diagnosed via an endoscopy.

Drinking lots of water helps and on bad nights sleeping propped up also helped.

Isn't gallstone pain usually on the right hand side rather than the left?

lucy, i have managed to eat o.k all weekend, not a stomach ache in sight! but, the lump in throat thing is really bad, i feel like i am choking.

so, if it was gallstones or a hernia would i have been stomach ache free ? i wish i could get well, driving me potty.

i'm going to the doctor tomorrow.

sorry, cheery i have only just seen this. I take it you have been to the doctors by now? I'm not a doctor so i think you did the right thing by going. I do know that the lump in throat thing can be caused by anxiety and you HAVE been very anxious about this so maybe thats it. Hope all is well and you can get sorted soon.
