Smelly 4yr old ears...

DD1 has had a few ear infections in the past

She has had a smelly ear for about a week (dp says it's like an elderly labrador's ears)

It's a bit waxy but nowhere near what it's like when she has an infection

She is not ill in any way at all

Any ideas? Do they need 'clearing out'? Could it be an infection?

TIA

Would get GP to check it out and poss swab it? she prob has an infection rumbling away waiting to surface!!

could be old seepage from infection but wouldn't touch unless advised by GP.

Thankyou

Am thinking I should take her to GP

Weird that she is TOTALLY well though

Previously she has been poorly, then the ear has 'popped' leaving gross smell

Popped because the eardrum ruptured but she will feel better coz presure relieved.

How old is she? - she may have glue ear and need grommets which will relieve her troubles. [hmm[

She's 4.6

What exactli is glue ear?

Its when the middle ear is inflammed and full of thick mucus. It fills -then ruptures - then seals - then fills - then .......
Easily relieved by grommets which are tiny tiny tube (like cotton reels) which sit in the eardrum letting the gunk come out and relieving the symtoms.

Thanks again

GP has never mentioned this before (but she hasn't had an infection for well over a year now)

What she HAS had though is the occasional 'seepage' (non-smelly though) which has cleared up on its own after a couple of days

Ok - hope all goes well.
