Tips and quick fixes for when you're 'run down'

I'm bloody knackered and have recently realised that this is now manifesting as feeling physically crap all the time. I've got a really bad pompholyx eczema flare-up on my feet, a recurrence of my anal fissure, spots, heartburn and I ache all over.

Given that I can't magically get more sleep, what can I do to make myself feel less like I'm falling to bits?

Do any of these vitamin tonic drink things make a jot of difference?

Willing to try anything provided it's cheap and legal

I find BErocca revs me up a bit in the morning!

plumandolive · 06/07/2008 17:13

I take this ultimate greens and don't knw if it is this or just placebo effect, but I seem far more healthy and energetic.
Floradix tonic is meant to be good and I've taken that in the past when run down- b vitamins and magnesium are good for restful sleep and anxiety too.
General healthy diet, loads of fresh greens.
Hope you feel better soon!

Can you really definitely not get any more sleep? Do you have a small baby? Because really if you're not getting enough sleep you will feel rubbish. Sympathy, my dd didn't sleep properly until she was 1.5, it aged us immeasurably. Anyway, apart from magic bullet of more sleep:

drink LOTS of water, really makes a difference
eat healthily
take multi vitamins
exercise a bit (walking even) if you can

IAteRosemaryConleyForBreakfast · 06/07/2008 21:06

More sleep is not an option, DS and work see to that

Thank you for suggestions though, will probably get myself onto some sort of supplement. I'm failing to eat very well because tiredness makes me permanently hungry and I've not got the energy to cook as often as I should be.

I've also got a stye so even blinking hurts just now, I feel like I'm 80!

vitamin c and water

FrazzledFairyFay · 06/07/2008 21:08

I'd second Berocca (or Boots' cheaper equivalent)

having been there done that got the t shirt since about november, I finally realised that there is no shortcut to recovering from long term 'feeling crap, knackeredness' etc. Finally pinned myself down to ordering the vits i always took before i had ds, and haven't got around to since (2.7 ). Mega Vit C/Mega B/High dose garlic/Hemp Oil - veggie version of fishy Omegas/Artichoke and Milk thistle supplements - these last 2 coz they're good for the liver and I'm very fond of my evening vino!) Also started to be very strict about eating well and drinking the ol' 2 litres. Within days I started to feel better, and within a week I couldn't beleive how lousy I had obviously been feeling for all these months, compared to how I felt now,.....iyswim! It's hard work to do, but I honestly think there are no real short cuts, and you have to make yourself a priority somehow. hth.

are there any known drug interactions with the ultimate greens?

plumandolive · 07/07/2008 07:33

I think ultimate greens is entirely natural, so I douby it. It's dried powdered form of masses of green veg and stuff.. I swear by it, bnut of course it could well be the placebo effect.
Agree with the omega supplement too, udos oil or similar

IAteRosemaryConleyForBreakfast · 07/07/2008 13:52

Natural doesn't automatically mean safe - most drugs around today were initially extracted form herbs.

For example, St John's Wort is known to interfere with a number of prescribed medications including the contraceptive pill.

Fotunately, feeling like I do right now, contraception isn't required anyway

I find Floradix a great pick me up, although it's only going to do the trick if it's your iron and vit level that is suffering.

Oh, and don't exist on caffeine.
