Can my breastfed baby catch chickenpox from me - I have shingles?

I have just found out I have had shingles for the last week and am now concerned that my 6 month old may have caught chickenpox from me. The rash is on one side below my bra and when it was hot my baby fed with no clothes on. He has had a runny nose for 2 days now and seems abit off his food (started weaning recently). I have christening in 2 weeks, should I cancel?

The chances are that if your baby has toughed the blisters then he will get it.

That being said, my SIL recently had shingles and we waited for her four year old DD to get it, as they'd been in bed together, sharing bath towels etc before the diagnosis, but she didn't.

If I were you I would call the parents/organisers of the Christening and tell them the situation and ask them what they would like you to do.

Just reread that - is it your DD's Christening? If so, call the vicar and ask what they would prfer you did and then maybe just warn everyone attending that DD may have chickenpox.

Sorry DS!

Poor you! My mum had shingles and I know she felt terrible, so I do indeed sympathise.

I got this from NHS Direct:

That's what I'm unsure of, I've not really had blisters, just a red sore ichy rash.
