TMI-strange things in poo

strangebumproducts · 04/07/2008 10:10

i have noticed over the past couple of weeks that there are sometimes longish white things in my poo.they are quite thick and rubbery and dont seem to be alive or anything.normally they appear if i have been constipated the day before(i have IBS).

this morning though, there was one which was about 4-5 inches long and it has freaked me out big time.can anybody give me a clue what they could be?

Sounds like threadworms to me

mucus mixed with undigested vegetable matter.
hat is your diet/digestion like? have you had a bug? do you need more fibre?

strangebumproducts · 04/07/2008 11:58

i have had a pretty nasty bug,but i was getting this before.my diet isnt too good,i probably do need more fibre.i eat fruit but not many vegetables.my diet is better than it used to be though as i have been making an effort as the medication i am on causes me to have alot of digestive problems.i'd not had a tummy bug in years untill i started on medication, now i seem to get every one going and i am often sick and have the runs then go back to being constipated.

i thought threadworms were small and thin?

Definitely not threadworm, they grow to a maximum length of 13-15mm

I'd go with the mucous theory, myself. Maybe worth mentioning to a GP? I think I would, if it goes on.

Doesn't sound like threadworms at all, they are very thin, not like what you described. Are there any other types of worms they could be?

I would go to the gp too, better to find out what it is likely to be than worry.
