Possibly kidney stones?

So my partner has been having stinging when urinating. He had antibiotics for 3 weeks! It eased then it came back! He had coffee colour blood when urinating and when that happened the pain was bad! No back pain or flank pain.

the gp sent a urine culture to the hospital and done sti checks which were all negative ( I knew they would of been) we are so confused. Has any male had similar symptoms? He is booked in for a scan but we are both very worried. Any similar stories please let me know.

thank you for reading!

He could. Kidney stones are horrifically painful so if his pain is not under control with normal over the counter pain killers then you should take him to A&E. In the meantime with urine that colour make him drink lots of water and check if his urine clears up a bit and turns a usual pale yellow

Thank you for your message. His pee it’s that coffe colour due to blood. He is drinking 2L of water a day. The pain isn’t going away, it started with pain only when urinating, now the pain he is feeling towards his bum. If the ultrasound today shows no kidney stones I’m taking him to a&e. Xxx

It does not sound typical of kidney stones to me.
Horrendous flank and back pain are the norm for kidney stones.
I speak from personal experience and am a retired nurse.

@Ratherhaveacupofteaandabiscuit thank you for responding. This is what I thought! He would of had some sort of pain in his back or flank? He is urinating a lot of blood. In a lot of pain when urinating. The pain is now radiating into his bum. The pain is just getting worse and worse. He also has a lump on his testicles. The drs aren’t worried, we really are x

Could it be a prostate problem? Sorry you're both going through this

Starrrz · Yesterday 07:06

@TreatGremlin thank you for your message. I thought this as the pain is now radiating into his bum. No dr has checked his prostrate. So it could be a possibility xx

If it is kidney stones drinking non sweetened cranberry juice can give some relief.

I am afraid this is not true at all.

If it is kidney stones, which from the OP’s account I very much doubt, cranberry juice will not give any relief at all and being high in oxalates is actually likely to be harmful by increasing the risk of stone forming.

Cranberry juice has been seen as possibly useful in helping ward off cystitis and utis but kidney stones are not the same thing at all.

Will they U/S his testicle lump as well as his bladder/kidneys? I am not male, but have had kidney stones and it was the worse flank and back pain ever along with sweating.

Starrrz · Yesterday 07:33

@zen1 he is having an ultrasound on his testicles and bladder and kidney today. If that shows no stone we will go to a&e. His scan is later on it the day, and we are travelling abit for it else he wouldnt of had it for another 5 weeks x

Have you seen symptoms like this when you was a nurse? Also, any idea what it could indicate? We are so stressed. I really can’t sleep, eat or concentrate. Drs are so chill about it all xx

Other than saying I think that the symptoms you describe are not typical of kidney stones anything else would be pure speculation.

It is even possible that it is kidney stones with an atypical presentation.

You are doing everything right, getting the scans and drinking lots of water.

I do appreciate the stress and worry. I actually have a very serious chronic health problem myself and I know how nerve wracking it is to go through tests and scans.

Take one step at a time, try not to think too far ahead and distract yourselves as best you can whilst you await results.

Really hope you get a prompt diagnosis and treatment.

I hope you’re ok after your chronic illness! It can be so hard especially when your in the middle of it all. Xxxx
