Period came early, heavy and no signs of stopping!

For as long as I can remember, my periods have been clockwork regular. 27/28 days. Lasting 5 days. Always been heavier and have got heavier with each child I’ve had.
got referred to gynaecology last year as I had an ultrasound because of them being heavy, was told I had a very thick womb lining. Had internal camera into womb and biopsies under GA and was told it was nothing sinister and due to high oestrogen.

this month however my period has arrived again 8 days early, after only 20 days. Unheard of for me. I’m currently on day 6 and still bleeding moderately heavy, bright red blood.

what is going on??

I’ve just turned 40, and have had issues for the past few months with major hair thinning, dizzy spells, fatigue and anxiety. Am under review with GP for these things, am now wondering if this could all be linked to perimenopause- or am I too young?

Sounds like perimenopause to me. Have you had blood tests? If your oestrogen is high you could just have progesterone?

Perimenopause, HRT helps

Yes they said I needed progesterone to balance it out, but the only options they will give me is Mirena coil or mini pill. I don’t want either. I’m not on any contraception and I don’t want to be. However I’ve since learnt that progesterone gel is a thing, not sure why they won’t consider this as an option to me?

I’ve never heard of progesterone gel but you could have oral tablets - utrogestan

Have you had your iron checked? I’d be taking ferrous sulphate if I were you.

yep it’s low. But I have Crohn’s and don’t tolerate iron tablets well 😫

Can you get an iron infusion? Dizziness and thinning hair shout anaemia to me.

Sounds like it could be fibroids? Any mention of this in recent scans?

SparkleHorse82 · 23/10/2026 02:07

Could be fibroids or adenomoysis too? Push back to gynae if it happens again next month. I’m on the progesterone only pill but am currently on day 7 with heavy bleeding still fresh and cramps needing painkillers. I’ve got a fibroid I’m waiting for removal but sure there’s more going than that. POP or Mirena coil can help
