Started with a mild sore scratchy throat on Friday, and has now progressed to incredibly painful. It is so hard to swallow, and feels like it is moving up and down my throat, last night the lower part of of throat was agony but now it has moved back up to the top of that makes sense. Can’t see anything to indicate tonsillitis and wonder if it is Covid as I also have chills and absolute exhaustion. How can I soothe my throat? Tried salt water gargle, alternating paracetamol and ibuprofen, warm honey and lemon, cold drinks, numbing spray, lozenges absolutely nothing is working. Is it worth a hardcore lozenge from the pharmacy? Any other suggestions would be gratefully received as I really need some sleep and have been awake for 2 nights now…

Facial steamer ( or bowl of hot water and towel) with eucalyptus drops or olbas oil.
Liquorice & blackcurrant sweets or Winter Nips ( Kop Kops)
Hope you feel better soon.

steam is good, nasal saline spray

also soluble aspirin - you can gargle with it before swallowing. for some reason it works better than soluble paracetamol/ibuprofen for this purpose.
