Is it normal for DD to have had a constant stream of colds/coughs all her life?

...She is 10 months almost and I don't ever remember her not having a cold or cough or eye infection. She is totally healthy in all other respects-developed very well-weight gain always great-very happy and alert.

Doc says she is fine, but all her colds are getting me down

Not really normal as such although DD went through a rotten phase at this age. Are you giving pro-biotics or vit supplements? They really helped DD. What kind of milk is she on - Goats also really helped DD with her coughs and colds.Other than that we just kept her snuggled as possible and didn't take her hat off until June lol

She has vitamin supplements.

She is breastfed.

well excuse me

EdieMcredie · 01/07/2008 12:00

I don't really feel like it is doing her any favours

I worry that her immune system may be weak.

Sorry did you think I was being funny??

Sorry!!

ooops sorry I was a bit offended that you sort of shrugged off my advice I thought you were getting at the goats milk suggestion. pls ignore last post..

Some children do catch every passing bug in their first year, but they end up as extremely healthy schoolchildren. Did you know that firstborns tend to have fewer colds as babies, but tend to be iller as schoolchildren than their snotty younger brothers and sisters?

OTOH is there a possiblity that she may be allergic to something? We didn't realise that dd has an as yet unidentified allergy until I took her to the GP because her nose had been running for 6m.

EdieMcredie · 01/07/2008 12:05

No I didn't mean that at all. I meant she has vitamins and she is breastfed, as breastmilk doesn't have all the vits that are added to formula. I added the because I had hoped that breastfeeding would strengthen her immune system!!

Sorry for the confusion, your advice was great

oh god I am so sorry I jumped the gun there.

I'm sure I read/heard/misheard somewhere that new borns have an average of 10 colds in their first 12 months.

My dd only had a couple when she was tiny but has had what seems like a constant cold since the beginning of this year (she's 3.6).

EdieMcredie · 01/07/2008 15:09

That's ok CWE-I see how you made that assumption

Squeaver-Thanks for that!
